Online classes are less effective as compared to regular offline classes: Vishal, AKGEC
These are first-hand student accounts on how our young population is managing to keep their exam prep or college course work going from the confines of their homes. In case you want to share your lockdown study experience, write to us at publish@shiksha.com.
We all know that the world is dealing with a horrific situation right now and our government has given the orders for a total lockdown until the situation can be brought under total control. However, at the same time, we cannot risk students’ career and growth and thus, schools and colleges have started the practice of teaching through online classes. My college has also started the same using various platforms, thus continuing the academic curriculum in a new manner. Though there have been certain issues regarding connectivity problems in multiple technical appliances but with a little bit of effort and help it can be resolved properly.
The teachers are trying their level best to make the students understand every bit of the topic but since there exists a lot of communication and understanding gap due to the virtual mode of study, thus, it is only effective up to a certain limit but not as much as with the regular classes in college life. This problem is very well-acknowledged and understood by the teacher and so in order to overcome this, they are connecting with the students on a personal level through Whatsapp groups and providing them with extra YouTube videos and PDF files made from various books and article papers as per the need of students. Our online classes have been scheduled for 5 days in a week and on the 6th day, we are provided with an assignment to be completed and submitted on the very same day thus revising the studies of the previous five days. In addition, if there are any queries regarding the topic than we can personally as well as publically in the Whatsapp group, can ask for the explanation.
In this manner, every week we are to complete and submit one assignment for each subject. Thus, I have to submit 3 assignments every week and in addition to this, we also have to submit project reports every new month and attach the progress we have made theoretically in comparison to the previous submission.
In such a difficult situation, the college cannot arrange for any lab and practical work and teachers were advised to find some solution to this problem. Teachers did their research and came up with a video tutorial along with YouTube videos so that students can learn from it.
AKGEC also has the reputation of providing social services for the people and government. Following to this, the administration has reached to every single student of the institute to download “AAROGYA SETU” app, which helps the government officials to track the COVID 19 affected people or the ones who are suspicious and monitor them as well as inform them of any COVID 19 affected area nearby.
