Student counselling is conducted in after tying-up with an organisation: Shekhar, AKGEC
These are first-hand student accounts on how our young population is managing to keep their exam prep or college course work going from the confines of their homes. In case you want to share your lockdown study experience, write to us at publish@shiksha.com.
In the current scenario, many colleges are organising online classes with the help of Google Classroom to ensure that the studies are not affected due to the lockdown. But currently, it's not as effective as we thought it would be. Because many students are from Jammu and Kashmir and they already are facing the internet and other issues due to which it would be difficult for them to attend the classes easily. Due to this, the college decided to provide only notes to all the students.
No live lecture would be conducted, and only assignment has to be done as given to each student.
Due to this, many students decided to talk to the teachers but all their efforts were in vain. Notes of the complete syllabus are provided by the teacher and these notes are published once in a week. The subjects like Machine Design and Theory of Machine are very important in the syllabus, thus, cannot be completed online.
In case, the duration of the lockdown is extended then it would probably affect the career of students. Due to COVID-19, the fourth-year students are facing more issues because their semester is going to get extended as well. This would be an obstacle for all the students as the placements are still going on. Also, this would affect the internship programmes as the college has advised the students not to undertake an internship on their own. The college has given various projects to the students in place of internship.
Also, the AICTE has signed MOU with Internshala which provides free online internships to its affiliated colleges (private or government). This is creating an additional burden on the students. As expected, the exam is also going to be conducted after May 30. Both the internship and exams are creating confusion in the mind of the student. The assignments are given by the college to students (work from home) which are very helpful in the preparation.
Every assignment has around 15 to 17 questions. We have six subjects in each semester. So, six assignments are given to the students in a week by the college. There is no announcement from the college regarding the lab or project. There is loss in studies due to COVID-2019. As I know, the college has cancelled the practical assessment and is focussing on the theory exams.
My college has done a tie-up with an organisation named “YOUR DOST”, they are doing the students counselling via online or call and providing valuable support to the students.
The students are getting demotivated and depressed due to their surroundings. So, I would say it is a good step taken by the college for the students in these difficult times.
