Things to do in case of a low JEE score
By: Shaik Dulari Janum
Exploring the available options is important for every aspirant. Keeping a back-up is always considered a wise decision.
The first thing for every student to keep in mind is not to lose hope if their JEE Main score is low or below expectation as this is not the only way to get admission in various courses.
Whether to drop a year or not?
Most of the students think that dropping a year is a waste of time, however, if the students are passionate about pursuing their undergraduate course only in National Institute of Technology (NITs) or Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), then dropping a year could be considered by them. Dropping a year is a good decision if it is utilised effectively with the sole aim to crack the exam.
Best colleges one can get with low scores:
The list of the colleges for in NIT with low rank in JEE Main is as follows:
- NIT Jalandhar - Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology
- NIT Agartala - National Institute of Technology
- NIT Durgapur - National Institute of Technology
- NIT Goa - National Institute of Technology
- NIT Hamirpur - National Institute of Technology
- NIT Meghalaya - National Institute of Technology
- NIT Puducherry - National Institute of Technology
- NIT Raipur - National Institute of Technology
- NIT Mizoram - National Institute of Technology
- NIT Jamshedpur - National Institute of Technology
- NIT Uttarakhand - National Institute of Technology
- NIT Rourkela - National Institute of Technology
Should one wait for the subsequent counselling sessions?
Based on my personal experience, I suggest every JEE aspirant should wait for the subsequent counselling sessions if they want to get admission in NITs. Most of the students wait for the subsequent counselling sessions to get a seat in NIT. Along with this, they should also apply for the entrance exams of other universities and colleges as a back-up option. This could be useful if students could not get admission in their desired college.
Should one opt to attempt JEE MAIN again in May?
One can opt to attempt JEE Main again in May if their score is low or below their expectation. In 2016, JEE Main was conducted only once a year but from 2019 onwards NTA (National Testing Agency) is conducting JEE Main in two sessions one in January and the other one in April. This year due to COVID-19 effect, NTA has decided to conduct the second session of JEE in May. Hence, students should utilise this time and prepare for exam diligently. So, if the JEE Main score is low then students must study well during this period to get score well.
