Territorial Army Salary 2022: In Hand Salary, Per Month, Allowances

Indian Army salary for Territiorial Army depends upon the candidate's embodiment. Territorial army provides a part-time engagement to young professionals and Ex-servicemen aged between 18 to 42 years to join as a support for Indian Army. Presently there are approximately 50,000 personnel that are appointed in various units of the Territorial Army such as Armed Regt, Air Defence, Engineers Field Park Coy, Infantry Battalion, Med Regt, Signal Regiment, AMC Field Ambulance, Coast Battery, ASC GT Coy, ASC Compo Platoon, EME Workshop. Every year Territorial Army selects young and energetic youths in various posts. The Territorial Army provides the best facilities to its personnel. TA Army salary basic pay for Lieutenant is between INR 15,600 to 39,100.

Below is the detailed salary structure of Territorial Army Lieutenant according to the sixth pay commission. 

In addition to Territorial Army salary, candidates get many other benefits as well:

• Officers with more than 20 years experience and Junior Commissioned Officers or any other ranks with 15 years experience get Pension
• Increment is received each time after a year of physical service
• The benefits and incentives of insurance are given to people of the non-department units of the Territorial Army
• Camp Allowance of INR 10 per day is provided to the candidate when attending camps or courses of instruction
• Terminal Gratuity is available after completing 5 years of physical service or 10 years of total service to personnel
• Hard Area Posted Allowance
• Transport Allowance
• House Rent Allowance
• Uniform Allowance of INR 6000 at the time of commissioning
• Bounty Allowance of INR 450 to the officers of infantry units
• Free rations, CSD (Canteen Store Department) facilities, and medical facilities are available to the candidate and the dependants when embodied for training and military services or when assigned on permanent staff
• Facilities to leave, leave encashment, accommodation and leave travel concessions applicable during training or military service or permanent staff is also provided for
• Some state governments and departments also provide incentives like cash awards from INR 2500- INR 5000 when a candidate is awarded a medal or decoration
• A sum of INR 450 to Officers, INR 300 for JCOs, and INR 175 to other ranks is given on completion of a minimum 80 per cent  of the annual training camp every year
• Ex-servicemen status and free medical help for candidates with a pension
• Concessions and quotas are available like Air/Rail travel concession, Study quotas, and others
• Opportunity for Foreign placements
• Annual Leave of two months and casual leave of 20 days
• Dearness Allowance

The important points related to the joining are given below:

• Territorial Army is a part-time concept with mandatory two months of training in a year and does not provide a full-time career
• Serving in Territorial Army does not guarantee pension, and the same is subject to embodied service as per organisational requirement
• The commission is granted in the rank of Lieutenant
• Pay and allowances and privileges will be the same as Regular Army Officers when under training and military service
• Promotions upto Lt Col by time scale subject to fulfilling the criteria
• Promotion to Colonel and Brigadier is done by selection
• Officers commissioned in Infantry TA may be called out for military service for a longer duration depending on the requirement

Candidates are entitled to the following incentives and service benefits:

• Promotion to higher as per authorization
• Free rations, CSD facilities, and medical facilities to self and dependants when embodied for training military service or when posted on permanent staff
• Facilities of leave, leave encashment, accommodation, and leave travel concessions when embodied for training, military service, or on Permanent Staff
• Entitlement to all medals and awards as applicable to the Regular Army
• Rank Pay as applicable to regular army
• DA as applicable during service embodiment
• Special increments on completion of three to five annual training camps
• Entitlement to pension for officers with 20 years and JCOs and other ranks with 15 years aggregate embodied service (actual physical service)
• Facilities of Army Welfare Housing Organisation after 10 years of embodied/physical service
• Terminal gratuity at the time of discharge/retirement (other than civil government employees)
• Ex-servicemen status and free medical facilities to pensioners

Candidates whose application forms are found correct will be called for screening (written exam followed by interview only if passed in written exam) by a Preliminary Interview Board (PIB) by the respective Territorial Army Group Headquarters.

Successful candidates further undergo tests at a Service Selection Board (SSB) and Medical Board for final selection. The vacancies of male and female candidates are determined as per organisational requirements.
