Mystory@Satyam Jain: How I chose my course and college
To be honest there are a lot of students who fear choosing Science as their stream as they think it is tough and at the same time, do not wish to opt for Arts too as they think it is too simple – this was the case with me too. I chose Commerce with Maths because there are many options for a Commerce student like CA, CS, ICWA, and these are the top degree courses, but for myself, I was sure that I want to do Journalism and Mass Communication as I wanted to be a travel journalist. This is how I chose my subject in school.
Talking about the college, I chose Manipal University, Jaipur because I like being part of a large group and diverse student body and I wanted to be in the best university in Rajasthan.
Choosing Journalism and Mass Communication is the best thing that has happened to me so far as this is totally different from other courses. You get to express your thoughts, emotions and even get a chance to hone your photography skills, and I always wanted to do something out of the box.
How I cracked college admission
There was no entrance test. When I got to the institute, they saw my class 10 and 12 mark sheets and that’s how I got admission here. It was totally based on my school performance, i.e. the board exams.
I did not go to any coaching institute. If you are going to opt for a course like the one I opted, then you should know about reporting, famous reporters and news channels. That is what I prepared before going to the college.
Some college that I had selected were Manipal Institute of Communications, Manipal, Amity School of Communication, Noida, and Delhi College of Arts & Commerce, New Delhi.
What I gained from my college experience
Anybody can write that I study and attend classes in my college, but I will tell you honestly that how I spend my time in college. I used to attend classes till my 2nd year but now I am not that regular. I just chill out with friends, sit in cafeteria, roam here and there and plan for trips on a daily basis.
I always attend my Advertising class, I don’t miss this class. I find this subject very interesting as this subject is somewhat different from other subjects and a little practical too.
Extracurricular activities are very necessary if you want to be recognised in your college and is a great medium to showcase your talent in front of other people. I liked singing, but previously had a fear of singing in front of other people, but I overcame this fear, and was soon a part of the singing club in my college. Apart from this, I also play football.
College has really helped me to transform my personality. I used to be an introvert kind of person. I used to only focus on sports, but my college has given me the confidence to talk to people. I had a fear of public speaking but after displaying numerous presentations in the class, that problem too has been solved. College has made me being more financially aware too, especially due to my hostel life!
Manipal has really changed my life. It has given me great friends, even my teachers are like friends to me. Manipal has given me a sense of understanding towards things, life, relations and friends and I have become a totally different person now. I will say Manipal is the best thing that happened to me.
