Mystory@Upanishad Sharma: How I chose my course and college
I was always interested in content writing from my school days. However, I couldn’t manage to find a suitable platform for it. Being a reader, writing whether creative or formal always appealed to me. It was something that came naturally to me. I might not be a great writer but I have a way with words which is evident at my moments. So, after I graduated I decided to pick a course which would allow me to write as I please and also have a fallout plan in case things decided to go haywire thereby killing two birds with one stone. Journalism appealed to me because of this duality and therefore I enrolled myself in the course.
After further researching on it I was happily surprised to know that the media world is much vaster than I thought it would be. It hosts a world full of opportunities ranging from radio to television, from print to freelancing; the possibilities are endless. The reason for choosing Amity University, Noida to pursue BA in Journalism & Mass Communication is because I was fascinated by the diverse environment it offered compared to similar colleges. It was its perfect blend of knowledge and exposure combined with excellent infrastructure that attracted me towards it. Not to mention it holds a very reputable position as one of the best colleges for Journalism in India.
How I cracked college admission
Entrance test in Amity University wasn’t as strenuous as I thought it would be. Every college has its own pre-designed admission test that frankly scares potential candidates and this was something I feared as I walked into the university to give mine. To my surprise the entrance test consisted of a simple English proficiency test which measured the level of knowledge one possessed in the language. The reason for this was because Amity did not put emphasis on a piece of paper but instead on the interview which followed. The interview was taken by two faculties which asked me very simple questions which were just aimed to measure my confidence and level of interaction with them. At one point, it started to feel like a friendly chat instead of an interview which was very uplifting for me as I was very anxious as I walked into the room.
I am not a person who believes in taking coaching classes for a college interview. Not that it’s anything bad, I just don’t prefer them but seeing how my whole admission process was such a breeze I would recommend any potential students to just keep a cool and calm head and face the interview with a friendly demeanour. Also, it goes without saying that one must be acquainted with all current affairs as you will be giving an interview for a journalism course.
What I gained from my college experience
I try to spend my time in college according to my whims rather than following a strict timeline. Being a reader, I can either be found on my Kindle or gaming on my phone or laptop. I try to surround myself with friends so I always have people I can talk to and socialise with. In Journalism, we have a wide variety of classes which range from research to going to the studio for recording a radio or television program. I personally like to attend all the classes as I find them all engaging and fun. I am not really a very social person so it sometimes gets hard for me to take part in extra-curricular activities that go around in college. Whatever creative thirst I get I fill it by writing articles online or reading books that satiate my curiosity. Although, Amity offers a lot of extra-curricular activities ranging from debates to extempore, there are all sorts of things to do.
If given a chance or if I did a little more I would surely love to be more interactive with whatever happens around the college and being more participative with the events that are there. We have many events around the campus that attract and inspire a lot of students every day and the best part is no event is prohibited for anyone. Students from any department can participate all around the campus without any restrictions. If I were to summarize and compare myself to the person I was in school and to the person I am now in college, I would say there sure have been a lot of changes. I recently mentioned I am not a very social person; that is because I used to be a very shy individual who did not approach anyone and just kept to himself. However, coming to college made me come out of my shell and showed me how to open up to people and put my faith in them. Of course, there were some fallouts and breaches of trust along the way but in the end I am really happy I decided to be a part of this particular college as what it did to me is nothing shy of extraordinary for me. Now I’m way more social with people before I ever was. I’m still not an extrovert but I learn to be more confident everyday as I grow. College taught me many things which are far too noble to elaborate but can be summed up in simple words. Friendship. Knowledge. Confidence. Faith. Trust.

CSE at LPU works well because of the overall exposure you get if you're willing to put in effort. The infrastructure and labs are strong, the syllabus is updated, and there are enough coding events, hackathons, and project opportunities to keep you active. Placements are decent for students who buil
