For each round of the admission process, a specific weightage is given to assess the performance of the candidates.

Established in the year 1962, Thiagarajar School of Management, Madurai popularly called TSM, Madurai is one of the oldest business schools in India. TSM was founded by Shri. Karumuthu Thiagarajar Chettiyar, who was an industrialist and a great philanthropist. Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) are the two managerial courses offered at TSM. The institute is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). TSM, Madurai is an autonomous institute affiliated with Madurai Kamaraj University. Candidates with required scores in examinations such as CAT, MAT and TANCET are eligible to apply for admission. XAT, CMAT and GMAT are various entrance examinations that are also considered for the admission process in TSM.

Admissions in TSM

The admission process in TSM happens in the first half of the year in which candidates need to take any of the above-mentioned managerial entrance tests. The candidates are shortlisted based on their scores in any of the entrance examinations and are further allowed to take part in the admission process. This shortlisting of candidates is done through the counselling process.

Then students are required to visit the campus for further rounds of the admission process: Group Discussion, Personal Interview (GD-PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT). Weightage is assigned to each round of the admission process and after considering the performance scores of candidates in each round, the candidates meeting the required final scores are admitted to TSM. Candidates can apply for admission through the website portal. Associate professor Dr Manjula is the Admissions chairperson of TSM at present.

Admission Experiences and Rounds

For each round of the admission process, a specific weightage is given to assess the performance of the candidates. Following is the admission process in TSM:

  • Shortlisting of candidates from management entrance tests.
  • Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GDPI)
  • Written Ability Test (WAT)
  • Document verification
  • Assessing extracurricular activities/work experience.

Initially, candidates need to take any of the management entrance examinations as it is the basic criteria for the admission process to begin. Based on the scores, candidates are shortlisted for further rounds of selection processes.

Group Discussion Round: Shortlisted candidates visit the TSM campus for the GDPI round. A topic related to current affairs, technical topics etc., is given for the group discussion and the group has five to ten members. The evaluating panel members are the teaching faculty from TSM itself and the evaluating panel consists of two members. The group discussions happen simultaneously in various halls of TSM, and the candidates are evaluated based on their performance.

Personal Interview Round: After the completion of the group discussion, the personal interview (PI) round starts and the panel members are the teaching faculty of TSM. The candidates take WAT simultaneously during the PI process. Self-introduction, questions assessing undergraduate subject knowledge, current affairs and scenario-based questions are the frequently asked questions in PI. The interview round is of 20 to 30 minutes. After evaluation, verification of documents is initiated. Once the candidate qualifies all rounds, the offer letter for the admissions in TSM is sent to the candidate and the candidate has to join the college on the date mentioned in the letter.
