IIT Kharagpur offers MBA programme through its management school – Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSOM). The institute offers General MBA with various elective courses. IIT Kharagpur MBA course is ranked among top 100 in India. In the NIRF ranking 2025, IIT Kharagpur is ranked No. 19 for Management programmes. For admission to the MBA batch of 200, the institute accepts CAT score. PI shortlisting criteria of IIT Kharagpur VGSOM also includes Class 10, 12, Graduation marks. Four points are given to female candidates as part of gender diversity initiative, along with the CAT score.

IIT Kharagpur MBA Admission Process 2026

IIT Kharagpur MBA admission will be done in two stages. In both stages CAT score will taken into consideration for selecting candidates:

Stage 1: Shortlisting for Personal Interview (PI) based on CAT 2025 result and academic record

Stage 2: Final selection of candidates for admission based on a combined score comprising Application Rating (AR), CAT 2025 score, and Personal Interview (PI) performance.

IIT Kharagpur MBA Eligibility Criteria

To apply for IIT Kharagpur MBA course, candidates are required to fulfill the following eligibility criteria along with having a valid CAT score.

  • A Bachelor's degree of minimum 4-year duration in engineering/technology/pharmacy or a Master's degree in Science/Economics/Commerce (with Mathematics or Statistics at Bachelor's level)
  • Minimum percentage of marks in the qualifying degree for General/EWS/OBC candidates is 60% or CGPA of 6.5 on a 10-point scale and for SC/ST/PWD candidates, it is 55% or CGPA of 6.0 on a 10-point scale.
  • Final year students are also eligible to apply for the course, but they will have to submit passing certificate by May 31, 2026.

The CAT cut offs for IIM Bangalore hovers between 97-100 percentile. Qualifying CAT cut off percentiles of an IIM is the minimum percentile (sectional as well as overall) required by candidates to be eligible for the Written Ability Test (What) and Personal Interview PI round. These are only eligibility score and not the score for selection. The final CAT cut off percentiles are the scores on the basis of which a candidate is actually selected for the What-PI round. The qualifying CAT cut offs are released publically before the CAT exam and result as a part of selection criteria for the MBA/PGP batch of that year. The qualifying cut offs for CAT are release category wise - General, NC/OBC. General-EWS, SC/ST, PwD. The qualifying cut offs percentiles of General category candidate is higher than then rest. The final CAT cut offs are not released publically. The cut offs are estimate on the basis of candidate's selection for What-PI. The final CAT cut offs for General category candidate is also higher than then rest.

Q:   Will CAT cut offs rise for 2026 admission?
A:

CAT cut offs do not flutuate much. For the past few years, the CAT exam cut offs for IIMs or other top colleges have not seen much change. If there is any change at all, it is in decimals. However, that decimal point too can make or mar admission chances. CAT cut offs for 2026 admission will largely remain the same as the CAT 2025 exam difficulty level was same as last year and number of takers dipped from last year.

No, students can not join VGSOM IIT Kharagpur without CAT. Admission to the Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSOM) MBA programme at IIT Kharagpur is based on CAT scores and a personal interview. Candidates must also have a 4-year bachelor's degree with a minimum of 60% marks.
