IIT Bombay offers MBA course through Shailesh J Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM). IIT Bombay MBA programme is one of the top ranked management courses in India. In the NIRF rankings 2025, IIT Bombay is ranked Number 14 for management. The IIT Bombay MBA application process 2026 will begin tentatively from January 1, 2026. The CAT cut offs for IIM Bangalore hovers between 97-100 percentile. IIT Bombay MBA Admission: Eligibility Criteria

Candidate willing to pursue MBA from IIT Bombay SJMSOM are requires to fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

  • Bachelor degree with at least 60% marks (55% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category) or a minimum CPI of 6.5 (6 in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category) out of 10 from a recognized university.
  • Candidates in final year of graduation and those awaiting results can also apply. The minimum aggregate of first two years must meet the 60% criteria (55 % for SC/ST/PWD category candidates)
  • International candidates are required to have a valid GMAT score

IIT Bombay MBA Admission Criteria 2026

IIT Bombay MBA admission 2026 will be done in two phases. Candidates will have to clear both phases of admission round to be selected for admission:

  • In the first phase, the eligible candidates will be shortlisted for PI round based their CAT score, academic record and work experience (if any).
  • In the second stage, candidates will be selected for offer of admission on the basis of composite score arrived at from PI performance, CAT score, academics and work experience.

Q:   How many CAT mock tests to practice to score 99 percentile?
A: 
Experts recommend that aspirants must practice at least 40 CAT mock tests to score above 99 percentile well in the exam. Most of the CAT test takers take up to 50 mock tests of various types and difficulty level. CAT toppers in previous years have practiced even up to 80 mock tests during their preparation. Q:   Are CAT cut offs announced along with the CAT result?
A: 

CAT cutoffs are usually not announced with the CAT result. The CAT cutoffs are also not released to the public.

They are published after a few days of the result announcement when the IIMs and other colleges start their shortlisting process. The IIMs opens their shortlisting window based on the CAT cut-offs two to three days after the result announcement. The CAT percentile of candidates shortlisted for the Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD), and Personal Interview (PI) can be considered the cut-off for that IIM. For example, if a candidate with a CAT percentile of 99 belonging to the General category is selected for the WAT/GD-PI of IIM Calcutta, then the CAT cut-off for IIM Calcutta is 99 percentile. Only those candidates who make it to the WAT/GD-PI round of IIMs will get to know the cut-offs.

Q:   What eligibility criteria is required to pursue B.E. / B.Tech from SJMSOM IIT Bombay?
A: 
Eligibility criteria: Candidates must have passed 10+2 from a recognised board. Bachelor of Technology, BS, or DD candidates can apply for the programme at the end of their sixth semester with the approval of the DUGC of the concerned department. Students must have a minimum CPI of 7.0 at the end of their 6th semester and should not have any backlog in their Undergraduate courses. Candidates need to indicate their preferences for different specializations, like Finance or Operations Management however, these two specializations are available at present. Q:   Is there a management quota for admission to SJMSOM?

There is no such management quota for admission to any of the programmes offered at SJMSOM, IIT Bombay. SJMSOM, IIT Bombay courses admission are completely entrance exam based. Candidates seeking admission to any of the course at SJMSOM must have valid score in the required entrance exam as mentioned in the eligibility and selection criteria for that particular programme.

Q:   What is the difference between qualifying CAT cut off and final CAT cut off?
A: 
Qualifying CAT cut off percentiles of an IIM is the minimum percentile (sectional as well as overall) required by candidates to be eligible for the Written Ability Test (What) and Personal Interview PI round. These are only eligibility score and not the score for selection. The final CAT cut off percentiles are the scores on the basis of which a candidate is actually selected for the What-PI round. The qualifying CAT cut offs are released publically before the CAT exam and result as a part of selection criteria for the MBA/PGP batch of that year. The qualifying cut offs for CAT are release category wise - General, NC/OBC. General-EWS, SC/ST, PwD. The qualifying cut offs percentiles of General category candidate is higher than then rest. The final CAT cut offs are not released publically. The cut offs are estimate on the basis of candidate's selection for What-PI. The final CAT cut offs for General category candidate is also higher than then rest.
