IIT Madras offers MBA course through its Department of Management Studies (DMS). IIT Madras MBA is ranked No. 16 among the top management courses in India in the MHRD-NIRF rankings 2024. Admission to IIT Madras MBA programme is based on CAT exam score. The application process for IIT Madras MBA admission begins in January, soon after announcement of the CAT result. Candidates who qualify CAT with above 80 percentile can apply for MBA at IIT Madras DMS. Selection of candidates is done on the basis of Personal Interview (PI) and Reflective Writing which is conducted in February-March every year. IIT Madras MBA Admission: Eligibility Criteria
Aspirants have to meet the minimum eligibility criteria determined by the institute for MBA. Check below:
- The candidate must have a minimum score of 60% in graduation or equivalent from a recognized university.
- For candidates belonging to Reserved categories, the minimum score required on graduation is 55 %.
- Final year graduation students are also eligible to apply. Such candidates will have to produce provisional certificate of degree completion within two months of joining the program.
- IIT Graduates who have obtained a CGPA of 8 and above on 10 are exempted from CAT score.
IIT Madras MBA Admission Process 2025
IIT Madras MBA Admission Process 2025 includes three stages. The aspirant has to clear all the three stages to be able to get admission call.
- State 1: Shortlisting of candidates on the basis of CAT score
- Stage 2: Conduct of Personal Interview (PI) and Reflective Writing
- Stage 3: Final selection based on Composite Score of the candidates
IIT Madras MBA Cut Offs
Candidates are selected for the first round of IIT Madras MBA admission on the basis of CAT cut offs. Check below category wise IIT Madras CAT cut off:
- IIT Madras MBA cut off is usually around 96 percentile.
- For Reserved category students the CAT cut offs can be expected to be around 85 percentile.
IIT Madras Admission Criteria 2025: Components of MBA PI Shortlisting
Candidate shortlisting for IIT Madras MBA admission will be done on the basis of the following parameters. Certain weightage is attached to each parameter to calculate the Composite Score for PI shortlisting:

For MBA admission, candidates who have applied are further shortlisted based on the composite score (calculated using CAT score, past academic performance, experience, gender and diversity) for a Virtual Interview. The weightage aligned to each and every component of MBA admission selection is as follows:

The final selection is based on the following:

For other courses, however, students are either selected on the basis of their academic background, personal interview, SOP of institute conducted entrance exam.
The CAT cut offs for IIM Bangalore hovers between 97-100 percentile. The qualifying CAT cut off required for being eligible for IIM Bangalore's Written Ability test (What) and Personal Interview PI is 85 percentile for General category students, whereas for SC candidates, it is 70 percentile. For ST candidates, it is 65 percentile and for PwD candidates it is 60 percentile. Given below are the sectional and overall qualifying CAT cut offs for IIM Bangalore.

Candidates having 24 to 36 months of work experience will get the maximum points, while candidates having less than 12 years of work experience will get minimum points. Check below:

IIT Madras MBA Admission 2025: Final Selection
The final selection of candidates for MBA admission will be based on the following with due weights to each of the components:
- Reflective Writing and Personal Interview
- Composite score
- Other Achievements
Upon final selection, candidates will be informed via email. The admission offer will be mailed to selected candidates on their registered email ID. To accept the offer of admission, candidates will have to pay the requisite fee (tuition deposit) before the deadline.
For MBA, students cannot get direct entry to DoMS IIT Madras. There is a rigorous selection criteria set for the same which is inclusive of a valid score in CAT exam, students' past academic performance, performance in PI round, etc. For E-MBA and PGPEX-VLM, however, admission is offered based on the score in the entrance exam conducted by the institute.
Yes, it is possible to score 99.99 percentile in CAT in first attempt. Many toppers of previous years' are such candidates. One must study in a focussed manner and do a lot of mock test practice. Exam day strategy is also crucial for better performance.
