MICAT (I) 2018: Exam Analysis by MBA expert

MICA, Ahmedabad, conducted its first entrance test MICAT I for admissions 2018, on December 17, 2017. The exam was overall but threw a couple of surprises at the test takers. Overall 65-70 attempts are being considered to be good.

MBA expert Rahul Singh, CATKing, told Shiksha that although Psychometric Test was doable it carried surprise in form of Argument Writing.

Here’s a detailed analysis of MICAT (I) 2018 exam by our expert:

Like all exams coming up with surprises, MICAT 2018 has come up with a couple of surprises.

The first change was the Psychometric Test coming to the end and the biggest surprise was the Argument Writing, It did not have ‘Give Your Opinion’ as the third section, but it asked to give ‘Suggestions to Improve’.  Topic was “Learning plays Importance in Central Education.”

The Psychometric Test was indeed a relief for most students who have been passionately working hard for the same, and if any student would have attended the MICA Psychometric Workshop would have totally been able to sail through it as it was completely on the same lines. Some students missed out here due to the technical issues and were unable to attempt all questions, but as I have always mentioned this is a qualifier and it is mandatory for attempting all questions. Students must ensure it is not missed out. This section had a little time consuming questions which did put some students under pressure for the last few questions.

The Creative Writing Test was of the usual format with 4 pictures which tested on the skills to bring out the creativity within you to pass the gateway to their dream college, the Mecca of Marketing and Communications. The set of images were very interesting mix: a rabbit with a small gift box, earth with multiple location pins, a boat in river under green forest and a bunch of bicycle riders.

There were no surprises in the Objective section, as expected the Quantitative Ability was easy with simple and direct formula based questions which were doable for all those who prepared for CAT. Time management was the key for balancing out all sections well.

GK was completely based on marketing with lots of questions from Mergers and Acquisitions; CEO’s of top companies; branding with match the following logo questions. Reasoning dominated by word associations saw a couple of difficult ones but the rest were doable. Verbal continued to be one of the favorite sections for most of the students, though some found it difficult considering the time management for the same.

General Knowledge - 10-12

Overall 65-70 Attempts are good.

Sectional cut-offs have not been a significant criteria in MICA over the years so we expect the same unless there is something new in store this year. Let's await the scores in January first week till then relax.
