The field of Commerce was the best option for me to choose: Madhvee Soni
Right from my school days I was never a Science person whereas everyone in my family had graduated from Science stream. I was always interested in the Business studies and that’s why I always look forward to get into that. The field of Commerce was the best option for me to choose. My parents always used to question the stream I chose which is different from others at home. I was never influenced by the thoughts of others. My keen interest and passion for the Business subjects led me here. HL (now known as AMSOM - Amrut Mody School of Management) is famous since long time and is now a part of Ahmedabad University. My aunts who graduated from here now have astonishing career. I heard a lot about it. So, I wanted to know more regarding this college and analyse the difference. Therefore, one fine day I stepped into the college to learn about it. I was impressed by the infrastructure in the first instance, the way they acknowledged the teachers and all the activities around attracted me to it. Talking to the professors, knowing about people here, felt like home. The procedure for admission, choosing the subjects, engaging in the electives as per the interest is unique and remarkable. I would say I am grateful to be the part of Ahmedabad University.
I used to go for extra classes in my 12th standard for the main subjects i.e. Accounts, Economics and Business studies. Some colleges consider the UGAT score. So, I appeared for UGAT entrance exam where I did score pretty well. The teachers in my school said that, there might be interviews in the colleges in the admission process. Moreover, when I applied in Ahmedabad University, I got to know the procedure was a little different. I cracked the admission stages here which was of few basic tasks. Filling up the applications, writing an essay about my ‘journey of life’ which is something unique. I am sure that my UGAT score would have been considered.
In a short time, I received an e-mail for personal interview and for checking my abilities. They offered me admission on that basis. I really liked the idea of focusing on personal interaction, capabilities of the students and not only just considering the marks.
I would say there is a list of blissful moments that I wish to reflect upon and personally I consider my school and college time to be most treasured experience. It has been almost two years now being in this college with boundless experiences. A bunch of new opportunities, choices, and education courses has shaped me as a person I always wanted to be. Indian Short Stories and Gender Sensitization classes were among my favourite ones since I had the desire to learn many fascinating things about different beliefs and religions. I didn’t have this knowledge earlier. I also enjoyed learning about marketing strategies through my marketing management subject. By Independent Study period of Network and behaviour I learned Gephi and Node XL software and basics of network which is helpful for my future. During summer time I did an internship program from Elixir Foundation which gave me a lot of understanding about different countries. I also got selected as a volunteer through college in ‘U & I’ NGO in which I am currently working. Going there and teaching the kids is the best part of my life apart from my regular college. Through these I had an amazing exposure to life. Other than that the extra-curricular activities happening inside the college itself are very exciting. I like to attend the fitness club sessions and management club activities. The teams of the clubs always come up with new ideas which makes the activities more fun to attend. I believe to get better at every facet of my life. Each moment has become more elevating and meaningful here.
