My college has completely changed my personality: Kamal Khandelwal
Selection of courses at the school level was a tough job as information around me was not sufficient but after gathering information from relatives, friends and siblings, and thorough research, thanks to the internet, I decided that I wanted to take up Management as I found it very interesting and aligned with my interests and future goals.
After the completion of schooling, and to do further studies in management, I took BBA for my graduation. But then again, there were a lot of confusion and choices available around. Hence, I gave IPUCET, BUMAT, DU-JAT, SET, etc. After the declaration of results, I found that I had cleared the IPUCET and BUMAT. After going through some suggestions from friends and family, I joined Bharti Vidyapeeth Institute of Management and Research. After my graduation, I gave entrance exams like CAT, MAT, XAT, SNAP, NMAT by GMAC, etc. After the declaration of result, I narrowed down my choices to a few prominent colleges in Delhi such as New Delhi Institute of Management, Apeejay School of Management, Fortune Institute of International Business (FIIB), etc. After that, I started doing research by reading reviews on various education portals and Facebook, and inquiring about the college from the students who were already studying in the institution. After that, I chose FIIB for my Post Graduate Diploma in Management.
To get admission in FIIB, one has to score a good percentile in MAT exam. After that, there are the rounds of group discussion and personal interview wherein the faculty members try to make sure that the most deserving candidates get into the college. I didn’t take any coaching classes but instead practiced sample questions at home using internet. I watched tutorial videos on YouTube, which actually helped me a lot.
I also gave IBSAT. Getting into IBS, Hyderabad was priority for me but I was not able to get into that institution. Hence, I selected my second priority, which was FIIB.
To crack the entrance exam, one has to make sure that he/she has great knowledge of current affairs, and have a good level of confidence to be able to speak in GD/PI, which would only come after practice.
My life at FIIB has been very vivid with so many classes, activities, events, assignments, presentations and what not. I am a creative person and hence, I like those classes which allow me to put my creativity on paper and use it, such as Consumer Behaviour, Strategic Marketing, etc. These subjects help us to think out of the box and learn more than just theoretical knowledge, which is very important in a PGDM course.
Apart from my academics, I am the co-head of a public speaking club which helps the members to overcome their stage fear and become a confident speaker. We organize events and activities under clubs such as TEDxFIIB, Ramleela Theater Dram, etc. which help us get a break from the hectic study schedule.
There are many conclaves and summits such as NMC, HR Conclave, OPEX Conclave, etc. and a mega B-plan event called Meraki, in which participants from pan India come and showcase their B-Plans. External panelists, who are actual angel investors, come and judge the event.
My college has completely changed my personality over the period of one year. I have become more serious about my studies and future. Now, I am much more confident and knowledgeable. Now, I can face interviews or even large public gatherings and address them confidently.
