Mystory@Tejas Shembalkar

When I was in standard X, my goal was to become an Engineer and for that I had to take up Science as my stream. I got enrolled in a renowned college in Nagpur and opt for bifocal course with Electronics as my major subject. During Engineering, I asked myself what do I like in life and the answer I got was- managing people. At that point of time, I decided to go for higher education and started studying for CAT exam. I did not score well in my first CAT attempt. I took a job and prepared simultaneously for CAT. After two years, I scored well and I filled the forms of top colleges in the country. NITIE was the best bet for Operations field. I got offer from IIM Ranchi and other new IIMs, but a legacy of 53 years of NITIE compelled me take admission here. Located in Mumbai and a very good placement figures lured me to get enrolled to this college.

How I cracked college admission

I started preparing for English from second year of my Engineering because if one has to crack CAT, one should focus majorly on English. Since my CAT score was not good in the first attempt, I took up a job at NVIDIA. After spending some months in the organisation, it was time to resume my studies to complete my aspiration. I started preparing for CAT again, parallel with the job. I used to take out four hours daily from my schedule and weekends provided me a time of 12 hours. I utilized this time fully and did justice to my hard work. To test my capabilities, I joined TIME test series, which is one of the toughest one. I made sure that I didn’t miss any test and also focused on the solutions of the questions which I could not solve. I gave CAT and XAT exams. XAT is on the tougher side than CAT, I was unable to score well in it. Through CAT, I got into NITIE.

What I gained from my college experience

Studying in an elite college changes your perspective about things around you.

The college schedule is very busy here. We have a total of twelve lectures on weekdays of 1.5 hours each. The classroom facilities are excellent here and we make full use of it. On weekends, we are busy in various activities of committees and forums. Lot of corporate competitions and case studies are held here. NITIE is eligible for almost all of the competitions, which you don’t get a chance at the new IIMs. The sports facilities are excellent here. We have table tennis, cricket, football, basketball, lawn tennis and pool. Corporate panel discussions are held every two weeks which give you an insight of the corporate world. The committee and forums organize multiple activities and involve the entire batch in the same. Studying in an elite college changes your perspective about things around you. I began to analyse data which I used to ignore previously. I learnt to make useful conclusions out of a given business scenario. The learning environment here is awesome and it keeps you pumped up to do things consistently.
