Students’ Speak: Placement and Internship Details of SIES College of Management Studies
By: Romil Bheda
An internship is basically the best thing wherein one can learn as well as earn. The interns are mostly assigned projects and not the targets. So, during the internship, even if you make mistakes, they can be mended.
It is compulsory for all the students across the courses to pursue a winter internship in an organization for a period of at least two months. The students have two options: either look out for these internships on their own or rely completely on the opportunities provided by the placement cell of SIES College of Management Studies.
My college is also known for having good associations with several organizations across sectors that sometimes conduct pool campus interview rounds. In such a scenario, they notify the students accordingly in advance about the important dates and timings, documents to be carried, and the various processes involved. An internship helps one in understanding the implementations of all the learnings acquired in the classrooms into a real-time office environment. Personally, I got to learn quite a lot during my two months tenure at the Lodha Group as well as came to know about some of my key skills and competencies during my internship there.
Coming to the projects undertaken during the internship, it changes as per the profile and the role being provided by the companies. The companies, before starting their interview processes, usually mention the role and responsibility an intern would be expected to fulfil. At the LODHA group, the project given to me was ‘Analyze the inactive channel partners, generate new channel partners, and business development through promotional activities’.
Apart from the mandatory internship, the students at SIES can even pursue an extra internship in summer to get more business exposure if they really wish to do so. It especially helps the freshers in adding a lot of value to their CVs. If one has proper clarity over what he wants to do in his career, these internships can act as a great learning curve for him. For example, someone aspiring to make a career in the Sales sector should look out for similar lucrative opportunities irrespective of the stipend being provided.
So to conclude, an internship is basically the best thing wherein one can learn as well as earn. The interns are mostly assigned projects and not the targets. So, during the internship, even if you make mistakes, they can be mended. But making the same mistake(s) during your work might affect your careers.
At SIES, we had a pretty good number of opportunities coming in for the internships. Ample amount of companies came to the campus. Almost everyone was placed for the internships at decent stipends.
