Students' Speak: Post-Placement Details of Welingkar
By: Aaishwarya Avhad
The pre-placement offers are rolled out generally after one has successfully completed the summer internship. Companies such as Crisil and HP are the ones who have offered PPOs to the deserving students.
In Welingkar Institute of Management, Mumbai, the placement season usually starts in the month of September. And by December, more than 60-70% of the people usually get placed, either through the college placements or the pre-placement offers received by them from the companies where they had interned. As of now, already more than 150 companies across varied sectors have visited the campus. This placement season usually continues from September to March, ensuring no deserving candidate remains unplaced.
The pre-placement offers are rolled out generally after one has successfully completed the summer internship. Companies such as Crisil and HP are the ones who have offered PPOs to the deserving students.
Last year i.e. for the PGDM e-Business batch of 2017-2019, all those who had shown genuine interest in the placements got a job from the college itself. As of now, approximately 500 students across the different courses in the college have already got placed in various reputed organizations such as Zee Entertainment, Deloitte, EY, Accenture, Axis Bank, DHL, Capgemini, HDFC Bank to name a few. Companies (both mid-sized and MNCs) visiting Welingkar belong to various sectors such as automobile, BFSI, consultancy, digital marketing, E-Commerce, Hospitality, FMCG, IT, Manufacturing, Real estate, Retail, etc.
The selection process for each company may differ but rarely does it happen that a company will have only one interview round. Many companies conduct their own psychometric and aptitude tests along with the traditional group discussions and personal interview rounds to make sure that only the best candidate for the job is selected. The questions which are usually asked in the interviews are related to everything mentioned in the CV, relevant questions to the job roles, the course curriculum, projects, hobbies and interests, summer internships, live projects, certification courses, etc. So if people have applicable work experience, questions related to their project(s), any difficulties faced and how did they tackle them could be asked.
The entire final placement process is conducted in a very smooth manner. I personally did not face any challenges. The process is never a cakewalk due to the sheer batch strength across all courses. The selection is done through a number of processes that will take you from pillar to post. The only difficulty is with the preparation; the sooner you start the better are your chances of getting placed in your desired company and sector. The professors are always available and more than happy to help if a student faces any problem regarding the interview preparations.
