SIES College of Management Studies provides both PGDM and MMS courses which are fully residential and full-time in nature. The duration of both these courses is of 24 months, with the students choosing their subject of specialisation in the second year. The curriculum is designed in such a way that it addresses the necessity for creating multi-faceted and skilled managers, who will be able to handle complex scenarios and quickly adapt to any change. Before these courses commence, a two-week induction course is conducted for all the students to help them adapt to the incoming rigour and style of learning. The sole purpose of this induction course is to make sure that all the students are on the same level in terms of the prerequisite basic knowledge. All the full-time PGDM and MMS courses have a combined intake of 330 seats: PGDM (210) and MMS (120).
PGDM Courses at SIESCOMS
In PGDM, students get to apply for three courses namely: PGDM Core, PGDM Pharmaceutical Management (PGDM PM), and PGDM Biotechnology.
PGDM Core: The PGDM Core course is considered to be the best among all the courses offered due to its placement records, a higher student intake and an annually updated syllabus, which is curated as per the latest needs and trends in the corporate world. Students can choose a specialisation in Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations, General Management or Data Science & Business Analytics. The lectures are conducted in many different ways, such as the traditional classroom, seminars, workshops, guest lectures, corporate interaction series, concurrent projects, etc. Various development programs such as leadership, entrepreneurship and personality development too form a part of the curriculum. One also gets to learn a foreign language German, which is optional. There is a compulsory annual NGO project as well, which is designed to make sure the students become socially empathetic. This course has a total intake of 120 seats.
PGDM PM: Another top course offered here is the PGDM PM, which started in the year 1997 in collaboration with the Indian Drug Manufacturers Association (IDMA). It is considered to be the best for those keen on making a career in the pharma industry. It includes subjects covering several key concepts such as Drug Dosage, Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), Clinical Research Skills and Pharmacology, among others. One of the highlights of this course is an extensive research activity to sharpen the students’ analytical skills. This course has an intake of 60 seats.
PGDM Biotechnology: PGDM Biotechnology is a course designed to meet the dearth of specialised biotech managers who realise the uniqueness and speciality of Biotechnology. This course has a 60:40 bifurcation of the traditional management concepts along with niche subjects such as Biotech Business Environment, Clinical Research, FDA, etc. Considering a growth rate of almost 37%, this field seems a lucrative option for those interested in making a career in Biotechnology. Being a niche sector, this course offers 30 seats only.
Masters in Management Studies: There is also the MMS (Masters in Management Studies) course is affiliated with Mumbai University (MU) and offers specialisations in Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations and Systems. Along with the syllabus prescribed by MU, the college also provides additional inputs to complement students’ learning by including the latest developments in each specialisation. Programs based on personality development and leadership traits along with several projects and research activities and an optional foreign language make MMS more robust and appealing to the students.
To get admission into any PGDM course, one must go through multiple interview rounds such as Group Discussion and Personal Interview. The weightage allotted to these rounds is as follows: entrance exam scores (40%), interview (45%), past academic record (10%) and work experience (5%). Lastly, there is no minimum entrance cut-off score explicitly mentioned to apply for any of these PGDM courses.
