Start multi-purpose testing labs in 13 non-agricultural universities' campuses: Uday Samant
All 13 non-agricultural universities in the state should start work on multipurpose testing labs at the campus, to help in COVID-19 detection as well as other types of viruses, said Maharashtra Higher and Technical education minister Uday Samant.
Maharashtra Higher and Technical education minister Uday Samant have directed Vice-Chancellors of all 13 non-agricultural universities to start working towards opening multipurpose testing labs at the campus that will not only be helpful for COVID-19 detection but other types of viruses as well.
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University has already begun this type of facility. For this purpose, the department will ensure that the permissions are given on an urgent basis by the central, state government and health department, said the minister.
The minister has also announced that the new timetable for college, university, and CET (Common entrance test) exams, will be declared soon.
A six-member committee has been formed to look for ways to avoid any academic loss and to conduct exams. A committee comprises of Mumbai University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Suhas Pednekar, Pune University VC Dr. Nitin Karmalkar, SNDT Women's University VC Shashikala Vanzari, Shivaji University Kolhapur VC Devanand Shinde, Director of higher education Dhanraj Mane and Director of technical education Abhay Wagh.
The Universities have also been asked to present a report on the feasibility of deploying the National Service Scheme (NSS) student with the authorities for relief and prevention work. Solapur University has already trained 27 students who had their parents’ consent and has also involved these students in various activities, said a statement by the minister.
Samant also appreciated Mumbai University’s psychology department for initiating the online counselling services for students.
The board of examination and evaluation of Mumbai University, have decided to postpone all exams until May 15. The dates are expected to be extended depending on the situation, the official said.
