TUM is very similar to MIT USA in certain aspects. It has a world-class research environment, as does MIT.

It gives just as much importance to STEM courses and Innovation as MIT. It does not have the same level of reputation as MIT does, but, it is far more affordable than the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

It also has a marginally better acceptance rate (8%), than MIT US (4.5%).

No,  the TUM Munich is not free for Indian students. It is only free for students who belong from countries that are part of the EU. Indian students would have to pay a Technical University of Munich tuition fee worth INR 2.1 L-INR 3.2 L for UG courses. The tuition for PG courses is between INR 4.2 L-INR 6.35 L.

It can be extremely hard for international students to be a part of the Technical University of Munich admissions as the acceptance rate is only 8%. Meaning out of every 100 applications, 8 applicants were given admission.

To be admitted, international students are not just required to have a good profile but an extraordinary one. With really good grades, extracurriculars and all.

It is fairly easy to apply for MS courses at the Technical University of Munich. Look at the TUM application process given below -

  1. Firstly, international students are required to prepare their application
  2. Then, the application can be made via the application portal called TUMonline.
  3. The admission team then reviews your application
  4. Later, you are required to complete the aptitude assessment
  5. At the end, if they really like your profile, they send a notification to accept your spot.

GOP or Grundlagen- und Orientierungsprüfung is a mandatory foundation exam at the Technical University of Munich. The exams are held during the first three semesters to evaluate students' academic performance. Students must appear for the GOP to continue the program; if students fail or do not attempt, it leads to deregistration from TUM and similar programs across German universities.

An APS certificate is required for a German visa, which will not be used during the TUM application through uni-assist but is mandatory before enrollment. Students can apply for the APS certificate via the APS India office in New Delhi. They must submit academic documents like Class 10, 12, and bachelor's transcripts, passport, and application fee (INR 18k).

LMU acceptance rate for international students is around 10%. Whereas, the acceptance rate for TUM is around 8% - 10%. This means that both of these universities are very selective at the time of admission. Both universities are tuition free, located in Munich and part of Germany's elite Excellence Universities. However, which university to choose for higher studies and which one is better depends on students' preference, location, faculty, reputation and rankings of the university, campus environment, etc. A comparison of both these universities is given below:
