Periyar University is a UGC recognized university founded in 1997 by the Government of Tamil Nadu. It has a grade of A++ accreditation by National Assessment and Accreditation Council. The tuition fee for a two-year MSc course ranges between INR 1,190 - INR 61,000, which is inclusive of the fee for all MSc specialisations. MAT is conducted multiple times a year. Most of the MBA entrance exams in India are conducted annually. MAT is the only exam that is conducted multiple times in four phases and multiple exam modes. To make it possible for every MBA aspirant to appear for an entrance exam, AIMA designed MAT, which can be taken by candidates from an exam center as well as at home. The exam is held in February, May, September, and December, which allows candidates to prepare and plan for it as well as for MBA admission. In each of these four months, the MAT is conducted in CBT, PBT, and IBT modes. Candidates can choose a date and a mode of exam based on their preparation and convenience. Registrations for each MAT exam phase start a month earlier. Candidates can also take re-tests in the same academic session if they are not happy with their scores.
Periyar University offers MBA course for a duration of two years. MBA (General) course is approved by AICTE. Apart from MBA (General) course, the university also offers MBA in Export Management. As per the placement statistics of the year 2022, the overall median package offered for two-year PG courses was INR 3 LPA, which is higher than the package offered during the placement drive of the year 2021, which was INR 2.50 LPA. Also, Periyar University Salem offers scholarships to PG students under the Free Education Scholarship scheme and various other scholarships are also offered via Government Scholarship schemes.

An Entrance Test consists of both a written test and an oral interview. The written test will be conducted for 40 marks and an oral interview for 10 marks at Periyar University. Candidates securing 50% aggregate altogether shall be declared eligible for admission. Those candidates who scored at least 15 marks on the written test will be called for an oral interview.
