Firstly, aspirants must ensure that they fulfil the eligibility criteria for PhD at Annamalai University. Further, the selection is based on a PG entrance test conducted by the university followed by an interview round. The weightage of the entrance exam is 70 and for the interview is 30. The candidates who score 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD) in the exam and interview round become eligible for admission. Candidates with an MPhil degree from an approved university or UGC-JRF/ NET/ SLET/ SET/ GATE/ CSIR/ ICHR/ ICPR/ ICSSR-qualified candidates and teacher fellowship are exempted from the entrance test. Annamalai University DDE offers courses at UG, PG, Diploma and certificate levels in distance education mode. The online/distance degrees offered by the Centre for Distance and Online Education at Annamalai University are valid. Previously, the University Grants Commission (UGC) did not approve its courses starting from 2015. However, Annamalai University DDE  received relief from the Madras High Court in an order dated 21.01.2023. Subsequently, following a reassessment by the UGC, Annamalai DDE achieved a qualifying score of 3.38, which led to extending the validity of its programmes until 2027.

The fees for UG courses at Annamalai University Tamil Nadu is very less comparatively to other colleges it is around INR 3,000-10,000 per year for courses like BFA and BSc and they are similar but a little high for B.Tech courses.
