Dibrugarh University is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education AICTE), NCT, and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities. The university has 177 affiliated institutes and colleges, spread across nine districts of Assam and 17 departments. Moreover, according to the NIRF report 2023, a total of 61 out of 170 BTech students were placed and the median package offered was INR 4 LPA during placement 2022.

Dibrugarh University offers courses in UG, PG and Doctoral levels in distance and full-time mode. The University offers courses such as BTech, BEd, MA, MBA and many more with duration varying from 1 year to 5 years. Dibrugarh University accepts the exam scores of two entance exams for admitting students to its BTech programmes. These exams are JEE (Main) and Assam CEE (Engineering). A candidate with a valid score in any one of the two mentioned exam is eligible for admission to the BTech programmes of Dibrugarh University. However, candidates applying with Assam CEE scores must have the permanent residence certificate of Assam. Hence, JEE (Main) becomes mandatory for the applicants who do not have a permanent residence certificate of Assam.
