MUHS is a government university. It is one of the top universities for studying both modern medicine methods and Indian Systems of Medicine. The university was established in 1998 by the state [Government of Maharashtra] through an ordinance. MUHS offers undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and Ph.D. courses in Medical, Dental, Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy, Nursing, and Physiotherapy. The university also offers fellowship, Certificate courses, and UG/PG Diploma courses under various specialisations.

Optometry, Paramedical technology, Nursing, Occupational therapy, etc. are a few of the BSc specialisations offered at MUHS, Maharashtra University of Health Science.
