B.Ed at TNOU course is offered as B.Ed General and B.Ed Special Education in a distance education mode through the Department of Education/Special Education and affiliated colleges. The course is spread across four semesters. The duration is two years for candidates with RCI-recognised D.Ed Specialisation Education, Candidates can complete the programme within a maximum period of four years, after enrolment. For aspirants who do not possess any RCI-recognised D.Ed Special Education, the duration of the course is two and a half years. However, the student is permitted to complete the programme within a maximum period of five years, after enrolment.
Candidates seeking admission must meet the TNOU B.Ed eligibility criteria mentioned below:
- Candidates must pass the UG degree examination to apply for a B.Ed. Trained in-service teachers in elementary education (DTEd) working in any Government recognised can also apply.
- Aspirants who have completed an NCTE-recognised teacher education programme via face-to-face mode.
- Aspirants must pass a bachelor's or master's degree in relevant subjects with at least 50% aggregate to apply for the TNOU B.Ed programme.
- Candidates with bachelor's in Engineering or Technology with specialisation in Science and Mathematics with a minimum of 55% aggregate can also apply.

2: Selection
TNOU selects candidates for the B.Ed programme based on their merit in the UG/ PG degree examination. For B.Ed Special Education, the university conducts an entrance exam. Once the results are out, candidates are further called for counselling. In the case of B.Ed, TNOU releases a rank list.
3: Admission Counselling
Selected candidates need to participate in the admission counselling. During the counselling, candidates are allotted learner support centres. While coming for admission counselling, aspirants are required to bring the admission fee in the form of a DD. Candidates also need to bring their documents for verification.

The total strength for seats for B.Ed admission is 1,000. These candidates are admitted to Tamil medium (500 students) and English medium (500 students) based on rank list separately prepared for each medium. A total of 50 students are allotted to each Learner Support Centre.
