ULSAT 2026 Syllabus for 5 years and 3 years LLB

ULSAT 2026 is an online exam. In the ULSAT exam for the 3-year and 5 years LLB courses, MCQ questions will be asked. While in the LLM entrance exam MCQs + descriptive questions are asked. UPES Law entrance exam is similar to the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), the  All India Law Entrance Test (AILET), and the  Law School Admission Test (LSAT) India. However, the difficulty level and competition are lower.

The entrance exam of UPES Law School is based on five subjects: 

  1. Language Comprehension
  2. Quantitative & Numerical Ability
  3. Logical Reasoning
  4. Legal General Knowledge
  5. Legal Aptitude

ULSAT Syllabus 2026 for LLM

The ULSAT 2026 syllabus for LLM mainly focus on topics from law and general awareness. It test how well a candidate understand legal concepts and how they apply them in real life. The exam pattern is made to check both knowledge and thinking skills.

  1. Jurisprudence
    This part talk about the basic ideas of law, its nature, and how it works in society. It include theories of justice, rights, and duties.
  2. Constitutional Law
    Questions come from Indian Constitution, fundamental rights, directive principles, and structure of government. It also test understanding of landmark judgments.
  3. International Law
    This section deal with global legal rules, treaties, and organizations like UN. It check how international law connect with national law.
  4. Contract Law

  5. Law of Torts
    Focus on civil wrongs, negligence, nuisance, and defamation. It test how one can apply tort principles to solve legal problems.
  6. Criminal Law

  7. Family Law
    Questions may come from marriage, divorce, adoption, and inheritance under Hindu and Muslim law.
  8. Property Law
    This part include transfer of property, sale, mortgage, lease, and easement. It check how property rights are created and transferred.
  9. Public International Law
    Deals with relations between states, diplomatic immunity, and international disputes.
  10. Current Legal Awareness
    This section test knowledge of latest legal news, amendments, and important judgments.

How to Prepare for Using ULSAT Syllabus 2026

Preparing for ULSAT 2026 is easy if you plan things smartly. The ULSAT syllabus 2026 has five main parts – Language Comprehension, Quantitative & Numerical Ability, Logical Reasoning, Legal Aptitude, and General Knowledge. You must know what each part includes before starting your study.

1. Know the ULSAT Syllabus 2026

Q:   Can I take admission in NLU through ULSAT Score?
A: 

No, you cannot get into a National Law University (NLU) with a ULSAT score. NLU admissions for the 25 participating NLUs is done through the CLAT (Common Law Admission Test). For NLU Delhi the AILET is conducted. ULSAT is for UPES, not NLUs, so you need CLAT or AILET scores.

Q:   ULSAT Admission is done for how many seats?
A: 

ULSAT (University of Petroleum & Energy Studies Law School Admission Test) admits students to various UG/PG law programs with a combined seat intake of around 560-590 seats, varying slightly yearly, for courses like B.A. LL.B., B.B.A. LL.B., B.Com. LL.B., B.Tech. LL.B., and LL.M., with specific seats allocated per programme (e.g., B.A. LL.B. often has the highest, around 240). Admissions use ULSAT scores, Board Merit and CLAT.

Q:   How can I prepare for Language Comprehension section for ULSAT exam?
A: 

To prepare for the ULSAT Language Comprehesion section, candidates must make a strategy for daily English learning. Improve the comprehension and speed by reading for at least an hour a day  on a regular basis and take online mock test on a daily basis as well as, weekly basis to improve speed and accuracy.

Q:   What documents do I need to carry to ULSAT exam centre along with the admit card?
A: 

On the ULSAT exam day, you must keep the following documents along with your admit card:

  • A valid government-issued photo ID card (such as Aadhaar card, passport, driving license, or voter ID card)
  • The photo ID card and photographs must be clear and legible. The photo ID card must also be valid on the exam day.
  • You are not allowed to keep items, such as mobile phones, calculators, or watches near the place where you are taking the exam in home-based proctored mode. If you are caught with any of these items, you will be disqualified from the exam.
Q:   Can I get admission in UPES Law College based on CLAT Score?
A: 

Yes, you can get admission based on CLAT Score. Apart from that you can also appear for ULSAT Exam conducted by the university. 

Q:   When will the ULSAT 2026 application process for the LLM course start?
A: 

ULSAT 2026 applications for LLM are available in different phases from Fenruary to December 2026. To check the start date for ULSAT 2026 LLM applications, candidates need to visit the official website of the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES). The web address for this website is upes.ac.in. By typing and then entering this web address in the browser, you will be able to land on the homepage of the website. If you scroll down the page, you can find the start date for the ULSAT application, the last application date, as well as the exam date for each phase of the ULSAT entrance exam.

 

 

Q:   How many colleges accept ULSAT score?
A: 

While UPES itself is the primary institute taking its own ULSAT for its law programs. Other private law colleges in India also consider ULSAT scores alongside other exams like CLAT, with Amity University, Presidency University (Bangalore), Chandigarh University, Parul University, and LPU often listed as institutions accepting ULSAT for their BA. LL.B, B.B.A LL.B, etc.

Q:   How many questions are there in ULSAT Exam?
A: 

The ULSAT Exam for UG Law programs has 150 MCQs. There will be five subjects with 30 questions in each section. For LLM admissions, the pattern involves 150 MCQs and descriptive questions, with 150 marks. 

Q:   Can I practice ULSAT 2026 sample papers?
A: 

Yes, you should make it part of your preparation plan. If you solve sample papers you will not only get an idea about your weak subjects but also which section is consuming more time. You will be more confident on exam day if you do solve sample papers.

Q:   Who releases ULSAT Syllabus?
A: 

The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies releases the syllabus for its own entrance exam, the ULSAT, on its portal for admission to its law programs.
