BRM Projects: A step towards shaping an analytical mind
Established in the year 2004, KIET School of Management is one of the very few university-offered MBA programs to be NBA accredited across India. Ranked within top 25 in ARIIA rankings. The basic purpose of MBA program is to bring an attitudinal change among the students, to develop their leadership qualities and finally to mold them into competent managers. KIET’s MBA programme is constantly rated as one of the best.
KIET School of management has been a blessing for its students. It provides students with a plethora of avenues to explore and learn the nuances of identifying opportunities for need identification and developing a business. In Business Research Methods (BRM), the students are made to first identify a business problem and perform a gap analysis, through a literature survey. Then the students develop the questionnaire and collect the data from the questionnaire-based market survey. Then the findings are analysed. The research reports are then presented in front of a panel of judges drawn from the industry as well as academia, and all the research work is presented at International/ National conferences. Some of the select papers are published in some of refereed research journals of international repute.
The faculty mentors play a main role in the whole process. They are available 24/7 to provide assurance to the students in completion of their BRM project. The best part is, BRM is a mandatory course in the 2nd Semester, and the entire batch of students gets to participate in the process. Through this BRM exercise, the students also get to explore the world of business and identify new business opportunities. They also get to learn the SPSS software package, as the statistical analysis is performed on SPSS.

An organised search for data is research, which is done to get a clear picture of the issue at hand. In a technical sense, research is the process of thoroughly identifying an issue, establishing an objective, gathering and analysing the pertinent facts in order to find the causes of the problem. Therefore, research efforts consist of an ongoing search for data with the goal of gaining a better understanding of the issue at hand and making specific suggestions for a solution. Making the appropriate choice is the best course of action for any corporation anytime the firm faces a challenge. A good corporation does research largely to address the pressing issues that surround their industry, including competitiveness, consumer happiness, product innovation, customer complaints, and new government regulations. In a business setting, the decision-making process necessitates coordinated and systematic attempts to research a particular issue. Finding the primary issue that needs additional research is the first step in understanding the issue. The phases in carrying out a research study are actually used throughout the entire process by the managers to try to address their issue.
In accordance with the definition of research given in the preceding section, research entails the process of inquiry, investigation, examination, and experimentation that must be carried out methodically, meticulously, critically, objectively, and in a logical order. As a result, the conclusions from the research would be what the managers would use to cope with the actual problem. As a result, we may define business research as a structured, methodical investigation of an issue that is carried out in an effort to identify the best solution.
Keeping in mind the importance of research in business/ corporate/ organizations as highlighted above, the initiative by KSOM in the form of BRM project helps students in developing an understanding of business, research, market survey, etc. They also develop research orientation and analytical mind.
