Here’s how you could secure a seat in SRM IST-Ramapuram BTech programme

In a conversation with Shiksha.com, experts at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram talk about the admission process to BTech programme in detail. They also elaborate about the University’s entrance exam, SRMJEEE. Here is the edited excerpt of the interview that has details on admission, fee, placements, exams pattern, and reward & ranking.

Q: What is the process and eligibility criteria for admissions at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram?

A: To apply for admission in BTech programme at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, the applicant must fulfil the eligibility criteria. The criteria say the applicant must have a minimum aggregate of 50 per cent in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Candidates aspiring admission in any of the Biotechnology courses must have a minimum aggregate of 50 per cent in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology.

For all eligible candidates, there are two ways to apply:

1. Through JEE Main: Candidates with ranks of 10,000 or less can have direct admission to University
2. Through SRMJEEE: The eligible candidates need to fill up the online application form for SRMJEEE (UG). Basis the results in the qualifying exam, the candidates are called for counselling sessions where they are given preference to choose the specialisation and branch of their interest

Q: Can you guide us on the exam pattern?

A: SRMJEEE is a computer-based online test. The exam is divided into five sections, namely Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Biology, English and Aptitude. There will be a total of 125 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) which carry one mark each. There is no negative marking. The exam will be of a duration of two and a half hours.

Q:  What is the fee for four-year BTech programme? Is there any scholarship or loan assistance facility available to students?

A: The annual BTech programme fee varies between Rs 1-2 lakh per annum, depending on the specialisation. There is an additional one-time fee of Rs 10,000 to be paid in the first year.

The institute also offers up to 100 per cent scholarships to students with ranks up to 3,000 in SRMJEEE exam. Remaining students can also choose to go ahead for education loans. We have a tie-up with few selected banks such as SBI, ICICI Bank, Bank of India, City Union Bank and IDBI Bank who facilitate education loans to students.

Q: Do you also offer accommodation on campus? If yes, what is the fee for same?

A: We do offer accommodation facility to students. The students can choose between air-conditioned and non-air conditioned rooms with twin and triple sharing options. The annual fee for the same ranges between Rs 1.05-2.16 lakh. This includes hostel, mess and laundry fee.

Q: What are the placement trends? Which companies visit during the placement drive to the institute

A: The institute has a track record of 100 per cent placements. We have almost all big giants and corporates participating actively in the placement season such as Google, Adobe, Musigma, Hyundai, Saint Gobain, IBM, Oracle, Amazon, Cognizant and Wipro.

As per the recent SRM IST-Ramapuram placement trends, we have witnessed an average package of Rs 4.8 lakh per annum.
