My Journey of Self-Discovery at Kirori Mal College, DU

At the outset, I would say college life is a stepping stone to the real world; this is the place where you hone up and enhance your skill set and explore the new opportunities coming your way and make yourself industry ready before you decide to alight on your respective dream bus.

My college was Kirori Mal College (KMC) and it’s located in the North campus of the university in New Delhi. My course was BA (programme). Now coming to the rhetorical question, what made me choose my college so it’s quite complicated and entangled but I would make it lucid to comprehend. Post-completion of schooling I had no clue whatsoever where to go next and which course to follow, back then you can say I was like Karan from the Lakhsya movie that was aimless and clueless.  I wanted to go to sports school or university but my family like any other Indian family put special emphasis on ‘Graduation’ so one fine night I started searching for the best colleges in India and to my utter surprise I found this wonderful educational website Shiksha.com which stated all the top colleges of India and back then it made my job pretty easier so while searching I read an article about KMC on the very same website Shiksha.com and I found it intriguing and enticing as the college was offering sports facility and college got some popular alumnus like Amitabh Bachchan, Naveen Patnaik, and much other celebrity so it caught my eyeballs. I was decent at academics and sports so I decided to try my luck at this college. 

It was confirmed after reading the article on Shiksha.com that I have to go to this college. I got to know later that getting admission into the DU circuit isn’t a cakewalk so better prepare some backup colleges I made a list from that very article stated on Shiksha.com. As they say, fortune favors the brave and I was fortunate enough to get into my late dream college as I have said above I just want to excel in sports so I chose this college to date KMC is ranked higher in sports but to I got myself into the ambiance of college premises I got to know that KMC wasn’t stuck to sports; it was equally excelling in academics, social service, research, and extra-curricular activities and I was so enthralled I end up joining many societies of my university and you won’t believe I end up scoring magnificent grades in my college which prima facie wasn’t my goal. You see that’s how life changes when you choose something good for yourself.

Well, I completed my college back in 2019 but to be honest it didn’t feel like I had completed my graduation because all those years I had spent over there were so refreshing that anytime whenever I close my eyes and ponder about my alma mater it feels like I am standing right there at the college premises.  It’s kind of a mixed bag of emotions as you don’t want to go from the place where you had spent the most memorable time of your life.

Now coming to the location of Kirori Mal College it’s in my heart; I beg your pardon for this lame joke but indeed it’s in my heart now jokes apart the KMC is located in the North campus of the university in New Delhi, India. The nearest metro station is Viswavidyalaya (Delhi Metro subway station) It is approximately 2 Km from our college so it’s remotely accessible in Delhi.

Kirori Mal College, Where Passion meets Career Prospects

I had a strong inclination towards social studies right from my schooling days and I garnered great marks in social studies so subsequently as an outcome I picked BA (regular programme) in my college. I already stated that I had a flair for sports so this course helped in excelling sports as I already had a base in humanities since my schooling days I came into my sophomore year as I came across this amazing book in my college “India’s struggle for Independence – Bipin Chandra'' and one another “India Since Independence – Bipin Chandra” it changed my orientation towards my nation even though I read about the Indian history but it didn’t suffice enough in schools here I read it in deep and later on I joined NCC in my college so it ambulated for a noble cause and I decided to do something for my countrymen so I end up making three NGOs in my college where we mobilize resources to needy people and we did the same during the lockdown as well. My ambition is now to become one of the finest civil servants of the nation and I am doing my every bit to achieve that I really want to express my gratitude towards college faculty and library books to make me aware of the surroundings and it really ignited the light to do something for my nation.

My college life made me a much more aware citizen and a studious student which was for a change an utter surprise for my friends as I wasn’t a bookworm during my school days. I took admission into this college for sports but I ended up graduating with a gold medal in academics in my course. It all happened due to college facilities like NCC, NSS, Social clubs, and the college library and it made my life pretty lucid. We ended up winning the national declamation contest as I was a debater and an active member of the literary club so it was a huge achievement back then for me. I also bagged a few medals in sports and theater too as I put special emphasis on all-around development as I was eyeing to become a multi-faceted personality which would come in handy in future endeavors. These things added value to my life which I have inculcated and it really helped in many ways.

Feeling Accomplished & Ready to Make a Difference

When I look back down memory lane and count my awards and accolades in myriad fields I definitely believe I made the right decision this is a brainer for me and I personally believe it made me an evolved person and I have become multidimensional and my perspective is dynamic and it became possible due to the benign guidance of my college faculty and facilities.  I made an attempt and I yielded the fruits out of it the kind of temperament and character I have built during my college days are ethereal so you can be the HERO or Main Character of your story too. That’s my bit and I hope everyone gets their chance to fulfill their respective dreams until then Cheers!!
