My Admission Story
Well, I belong from the Commerce background. And since I am from the 2021 batch of Class 12, also called the COVID-19 batch, I was very confused regarding my career forward. So, I consulted my teacher for the same and they suggested career counselling. I then received counselling from few experts, and they advised me to appear for several entrance exams or go for government exams.
Then, I decided to give SNAP, DU JAT and the tests for IIM and IPU. My result in DU JAT was not so impressive, as a result, I did not get any of my desired colleges. However, I got a good score in the IPU CET exam and got accepted into MSI College. Later, when Class 12 results were announced, I got a 94.75% score, which opened the route for many colleges in University of Delhi (DU) that accepted direct admissions. Eventually, I decided to get admission into DU.
Why I Chose This Course
After this, the next step was to decide which course and college I should choose. After a lot of evaluation, I decided to go for BCom Hons. This course is like an umbrella containing all subjects such as Finance, Economics, Taxation, Mathematics and English. In all honesty, I am satisfied with the course I chose, as it did provide me clarity in where my interests lie.
For BCom Hons, the best available college was Rajdhani College. Another reason why I chose this college was that I wanted a co-ed college. This was because my mentors suggested to me that I would gain more personality boost and advantages in a co-ed college.
My College Experience
The course structure at my college was well-organised. If you study moderately well, you can easily score well. When I got admission in 2021, there was only a 5 marks criteria for attendance. If someone’s attendance was not 75%, they lose 5 marks in the internals.
In a class of 90 students, barely 15 of us attended class regularly. Mostly, students were busy with fests and extracurricular activities such as NCC or Sports events.
The downside for our batch was that the teachers took leaves way too often. Due to this, students were often frustrated to have travelled long distances just to attend a few lectures.
The timetable was also not great, with 2-hour gaps between classes at times, which got extended to even 3 hours if the classes were cancelled.
But in the 6th semester, strict attendance rules were put in place, which forced all students to attend all the classes, and even some of the faculty were replaced.
My college had a plethora of societies including a Placement Cell, Entrepreneurship Cell, Commerce Society, Anime Club and Finance Club. I was not part of any clubs, but my friends were, and according to them, it was fun to work in clubs.
Most of my college hours were spent on assignments and classes. At times, I had also volunteered for fests with my friends, which was a fun learning experience.
The infrastructure of my college was great, especially the library and the reading room where I spent most of my break time. I also saw the canteen food being improved by the time I was in my final year.
Placements and Afterthoughts
When it comes to the placements at Rajdhani College, they are not good. Most internships were offered in Sales or Business Development. They also offered HR internships but the companies were not great. The placements offered the highest packages of around INR 3 to 4 LPA, and even to accept those positions, one had to relocate. I was outraged to see that one company offered INR 2 LPA in-hand plus INR 1 LPA based on the performance for Sales and asked candidates to relocate to Bangalore for the same.
After experiencing all this, it was clear to me that I needed to upskill in order to get a good job offer at some prestigious company. Hence, I decided to go towards higher education and filled out the form for the CAT exam. Now, I am pursuing MBA at IGDTUW.
