Pre-internship counselling prepares students for the upcoming challenges in the corporate world, says Apoorv

As a budding lawyer, I spent a great amount of time in the library which was very well equipped with all the popular legal journals, books, magazines and online subscriptions such as Manupatra, West Law, etc. Since the library functioned till late evening I was able to devote more and more time to various types of legal research. When it came to writing dissertations, research papers and articles, faculty members were always available in guiding me with respect to conducting research

My curiosity towards the working of a legal system drove me towards choosing Law as a career. After completing my Board exams, I began choosing the right college for my further studies which led me to Gurugram. Though I originally belong to Bhopal, my eagerness to explore, motivated me for educational interstate migration. Choosing the right kind, of course, is already a crucial decision of one’s life and when it comes to making a choice with respect to an integrated course, it becomes even tougher. However, with a little bit of counselling one has better chances of shortlisting their priorities. I am glad to state that I found one such counselling at The NorthCap University. I was explained the course module and the possible job opportunities in detail before I concluded that I will spend my next five years pursuing BBA/LLB (Hons) here. The integrated course I opted for opened opportunities both in the field of Business Administration as well as Law. Business Laws continue to be an emerging field with a plethora of new rules and regulations being framed which happens to be an attraction in the field of corporate law. Since the university had expertise in various other courses including engineering and management, all the students have an opportunity to interact and learn from each other. Intellectual Property Rights and Patent remained one of the common areas of interest between students of diverse fields.

When it came to writing dissertations, research papers and articles, faculty members were always available in guiding me with respect to conducting research and maintaining novelty in my write-ups for which I can’t thank them enough. The forceful endeavours of the teachers resulted in building up an attractive resume for prospective companies for many of us.

The motivation and encouragement that the faculty gave to the students laid the foundation for the reputation that the institute enjoys now. From overcoming comfort zone to set up of milestone, the transition has been monumental. During my course, I came across the concept of mooting and mock trial events. To my benefit, the university encouraged students to participate in national and international level competitions. I had the privilege to participate and represent my Law School in various moot court competitions and conferences throughout India. Little did I know back then that it would help me in such a great way until I became a licensed practitioner.

I distinctively recollect that the students pursuing BBA/LLB were provided electives at various stages. Apart from the primary bifurcation of Corporate Law (Hons) and Constitutional Law (Hons) the electives included Media Law, Competition Law, European Union, Intellectual Property Rights and others which happened to be trending law subjects in the legal field.

Each of the electives demanded a set of expertise and fortunately, we got special guest lectures on almost every subject that we could think of from experts. In the field of law, the right kind of exposure makes a good nurturing recipe and ample of it can boost the growth by great lengths.

The third stage of any course is the internship where the students go head-on with real-world challenges. We had an organised internship programme where the most renowned law firms, Companies, Advocates and NGOs were contacted at the university level by the Internship Committee of our department which involved student members as well. The pre-internship counselling prepared the students for the challenges that they might face during the internship period. The feedback that students provided post-internship became a valuable database for the Internship Committee that improvised its working accordingly. The committee bridged the gap between the students and the prospective recruiters. The Internship Committee worked in close nexus with the Placement Cell of the University and the coordination between the two has been instrumental in creating several Entrepreneurs, Business Analysts, Corporate Professionals, Academician and Lawyers.

However, I must say that the student life at The NorthCap University was not all about studies and career. I had a great time and enjoyed the various University fests and events that were routinely organised. The campus life was a unified cultural carnival that had tons of activities, sports and recreational activities to engage in. Active participation of students in organising and hosting these events made the journey of my course a very memorable one.

To conclude my overall experience, I can say that The NorthCap University is a great amalgamation of fun, knowledge, technology, exposure and great faculty.
