Shoolini University student Amanpreet wins Brussels-based Young Water Fellowship

Shoolini University's Ph.D. student Amanpreet Kaur Virk is the only Indian to win the Brussels, Belgium-based Young Water Fellowship. She has achieved this for her work on Moringa-based water purification systems where she has worked on a tea bag style equipment that can be used to purify water. 

Amanpreet is a student of Dr. Saurabh Kulshrestha, Professor of Biotechnology and Dean of Research & Development at Shoolini University. Young Water Solutions, a non-profit organisation offers this international scholarship with the aim of developing and supporting young scientists who are working on universal water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) as well as water resources management.

For the 2019 edition of Young Water Fellowship, which is also supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, 375 researchers had applied from across the globe. However, only 10 such fellows were selected for the fellowship. Ms. Amanpreet is the only student from India, who has been selected for the fellowship program this year.

As a part of the fellowship, Amanpreet would visit Belgium, Sweden, and Switzerland. She will also be attending a start-up training program in these countries for a period of 40 days. Her trip is fully-funded by Young Water Solutions. In addition, she will also be getting a grant of Euro 15000 to run a pilot project in Himachal Pradesh to provide clean, potable drinking water to the rural community based on this water purification kit developed by her.
