Skill-based courses expose students to practical knowledge, develop skills, says Director
In a conversation with Shiksha.com, Director-Asia Pacific Institute of Hotel, Tourism and Aviation Management, Dr Parul Mathur talks about their unique teaching methodology making students future-ready. She also throws light on the curriculum which is designed in a way that focuses equally on practical exposure and theoretical learning. Dr Mathur has rich experience of both industry and academia.

Q: What is the difference between the teaching methodology in your institute and others?
A: Ours is a unique teaching pedagogy, which comprises principles and methods used by teachers to enable effective learning. Our professional and skill-based courses expose students to practical knowledge, development of skills and building a positive attitude. Training is a part of the academic curriculum. We believe, learning while doing with result into ever-lasting learning.
Q: How are you preparing your students to be industry-ready?
A: To prepare students well for the corporate world, we facilitate six months of industrial training programme which is mandatory for all the students. It gives them exposure to the industrial environment and bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical applicability of the concepts.
Q: What quality do your students have which other college students lack?
A: We focus on the overall personality development of the students. We encourage and prepare them as per the industry standards in context to grooming, punctuality, positive attitude and motivation. We develop the students to enhance their competencies and accept challenges in life.
Q: Do you think the curriculum of the courses taught in your institute fits in the requirement of the industry?
A: Yes, of course! The curriculum of the courses taught is designed as per the industrial needs. It is a perfect blend of theory and practical which gives complete exposure to the students.
Q: Is your college receptive to the innovation, technology, science & entrepreneurship?
A: Yes, we do motivate and encourage our students to participate in the events, chef’s competition at different levels. We also conduct events of different types at our institute through which students learn team building, positivity and enhance their skills.
