Aviation in India witnessed a phenomenal growth in the midst of economic slowdown across industries

1 min readUpdated on Sep 24, 2019 17:44 IST

According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Indian domestic aviation market recorded the fastest full-year domestic growth rate for the fourth year in a row at 18.6%.

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India had 13.9 crore domestic air travelers in 2018- up 18.6% from 11.7 crores in 2017. To cater to the rising air traffic, the Govt. of India has been working to increase the number of airports. As of March 2019, India had 103 operational airports.

The rising demand has pushed the requirement for airplanes as well. As of July 2018, there were nearly 620 aircraft being operated by schedule airline operators in India. The number of airplanes is expected to grow to 1100 planes by 2027. Such robust growth has created increasing job opportunities in the aviation sector.

Sensing the need for trained manpower in very high demand in the rapidly growing aviation sector, Vels Institute of Science, Technology & Advanced Studies has launched several short term and Technical courses to provide job opportunities to the growing number of unemployed youth.

VISTAS has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with New Zealand Aviation Aotearoa Limited (NZAA) as a knowledge partner to introduce various courses in Aviation.

The short term courses with duration ranging from 3-4 months are in:

Cabin crew training: Both Male and Female candidates who have completed +2 and are fluent in English and can communicate in Hindi and within the age group of 18-25 will be considered for the program. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of a personal interview.

Airport management: Graduates from any stream of study are eligible to apply. Successful candidates will find jobs as Ground staff with airlines or in Ground handling companies in airports across the country.

Flight operations: Any Engineering graduate from the following streams EEE, ECE, Mech, Automobile and Aeronautical Engineering who aspires to be a flight dispatcher can apply.

VISTAS plans to provide effective placement assistance to all the candidates who enroll in these courses so that they find immediate employment.

The Founder- Chancellor of VISTAS also said: “We plan to introduce technical courses like Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, a DGCA approved the program and a three-year degree B.Sc. in Aeronautical Science in the coming academic session 2020-21”.
