Mystory@Diljit Singh Khalsa: How I selected my course and college
I have done my XI-XII from FMM (Financial Marketing Management) stream, which was an experimental stream introduced in only six Kendriya Vidyalayas from all over India. I have two Bachelor’s degrees, one in Commerce and the other in Business Administration. I decided to opt for MBA because I wanted to pursue a corporate career and I thought MBA will provide me the perfect exposure for that. Following that, I started searching for an appropriate institution that can understand my needs. I found Oakbrook Business School, Gandhinagar, on an internet website. I immediately visited it and instantly decided to join this college. I was absolutely baffled by the infrastructure and the campus premises.
What I gained from my college years
I did not appear for any competitive entrance exam as I was about to opt for government bank job as my career, but then with some late but proper guidance I was persuaded to join MBA.
One of the most intriguing things I found about my college is how effectively it maintains a balance between academics and co-curricular activities for its students. Every month Oakbrook organizes some events for the students to give them opportunity to showcase their skills and managerial talent. Events such as Conclaves, Seminars, Industrial Visits, Cultural Fests, etc. are held for the same. Our college encourages each and every student to give their maximum participation. College includes marks for such participation in its internal evaluation of students and helps them accordingly. My college also recognizes our efforts and felicitates us, which gives us immense motivation to participate in more such events.
Personally speaking, I participated in many events. I hosted the 3rd Orientation Program, 3rd Marketing Conclave, 1st Concluding Ceremony and Independence Day of our college. I also participated in Mime on Annual Day. I am also the “Campus Reporter” from our college for Business Standard in which I write an article on a monthly basis describing the activities held in our college. I also participated in Kho-Kho and Basketball event on college Sports Day event and ended up as 1st Runner ups and winners, respectively. This participation in various events is towards holistic growth which will help us in our future endeavors of life.
To participate in extra-curricular activities and simultaneously excel in academics needs superior time management. My day starts at 5 am in the morning and I get ready before 6.30. I complete my assignments if any before leaving for my college. I reach college by 9 am and my classes are up to 4.30 pm. I reach home around 6 pm and then take a few minutes of rest and do my exercise which I think is very important. Then I start my college work again at 8 pm and work up to 10 in the night and sometimes later depending upon the work load. I hit the bed at 11pm after having my dinner. This exposure has helped me develop in various domains, which I think will help in my personal as well as professional life.
