Q:   How can I know about the NMAT cutoffs of different colleges?

A:

The cut-offs of different colleges are different so once the colleges decide on the NMAT cutoffs they will officially release the set level of cut off individually. However, for reference purposes, they can check the past year NMAT cut-offs to understand the level of a particular college.

The NMAT cutoff is usually released in the form of percentile. A percentile score indicates the percentage of candidates who scored lower than you in the exam. For example, if you score a percentile of 90, it means that you scored better than 90 per cent of the candidates who took the exam.

Q:   What is meant by sectional cutoff for NMAT?

A:

The sectional cutoff in NMAT is the minimum score required in each section of the exam in order to be eligible for admission to a particular B-school. The NMAT exam is divided into three sections:

  • Language Skills
  • Quantitative Skills
  • Logical Reasoning

The sectional cutoffs are different for each B-school. Some of the participating institutes may or may not have any sectional cutoff score. Candidates who meet the overall cutoff score; however, do not meet the sectional cutoff scores are not eligible for the NMAT based admissions.

Q:   Why is NMAT sectional cutoff required?

A:

The sectional cutoffs are used by B-schools to assess a candidate's strengths as well as weaknesses in different areas. Information based on the NMAT sectional cutoff can help institutes to make more informed decisions about admissions. The sectional cutoffs helps ensure all candidates who are admitted to a B-school have a strong base in all of the areas that are critical for success in an MBA programme.

The sectional cutoffs change from year to year. Sectional cutoff for NMAT depends on several factors, including the difficulty level of the exam, the number of applicants, among other factors.

Q:   How is the NMAT score and percentile calculated?

A:

The scores of candidates will be equated and percentile scores are calculated after the completion of exam for declaring the final NMAT result. Check below, how the scaled and percentile scores are calculated.

Scaled scores: The scaled scores are prepared after normalising the marks obtained by the candidates. These scores are equated to account any differences in the overall difficulty level. This process is applied to check the scores are comparable across the different sets of question papers.

Final percentile: The final percentile is prepared after the candidates have appeared for NMAT by GMAC examination. The scorecard of NMAT sent to schools will be updated with the announcement of the result. For example, if a test taker is said to score 75 percentile, the test taker scored better than 75%ile of all the test takers who took the exam.

NMAT 2023 Selection Process

The NMAT selection process for admission through NMAT comprises, Group Discussion (GD) or Case Discussion (CD), a Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT). The NMAT participating institutes conduct these rounds individually and according to their respective admission schedule.

Group Discussion:

For the Group Discussion (GD) round of NMAT selection process, candidates are divided into groups of 7-10 members. Each group is then given a topic for discussion.

or

Case Discussion:

Some institutes conduct a Case Discussion round in place of a Group Discussion round. If students need to appear for the Case Discussion round, they need to first know that, CD round is similar to preparing for a GD round. However, it is somewhat different. In the Case Discussion round, a structured discussion of any specific situation will be given as a case. Students will need to make at least 2-3 meaningful entries quickly, say in a span of 15 mins.

Personal Interview:

The Personal Interview round for the NMAT selection process follows the GD round. In this round, members from the B-School’s internal selection committee and independent experts of the field interview the candidate. The panel asks the candidate questions about management, current affairs and events worldwide.

Written Ability Test:

Many NMAT accepting colleges conduct a Written Ability Test along with the GD and PI round in the NMAT selection round. In the Written Ability Test, candidates will be tested on their writing and communication skills. For the written test, the B-School’s selection committee also assign a topic to write on in 15-20 minutes.

Given below is the list of factors that take into consideration at the time of NMAT's final selection of candidates for 2023 admissions to the management program:

  • NMAT 2023 score
  • Personal Interview
  • Group Discussion
  • Academic record
  • Work Experience
  • Academic/Gender diversity
