Mystory@Jigyasa: How I chose my course and career path – Challenges and learnings
I was a Science student with both Biology and Mathematics in class XIth and XIIth. I always wanted to become an engineer but I could not crack IIT entrance exam and that became a turning point of my life. I was disheartened but I never left hope.
I opted for BSc Chemistry (Hons) from Hansraj College, Delhi University. During graduation, my goal was clear. I wanted to pursue MBA/PGDM from a good institute. I chose JIMS Rohini because of its reputation among other colleges under MAT entrance exam. It has a good placement record and a well-qualified and helpful faculty. Doing MBA was my passion and I am just following my passion.
How I cracked MBA admission
I took MBA entrance coaching from TIME institute. I wanted to drop a year and give CAT and then get admission in FMS, Delhi University. But my parents didn’t want a gap in my studies. So, I gave MAT and NMAT. I did not give CAT. I scored very well in NMAT and was selected in Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai but my parents wanted me to study in Delhi only.
I had cracked MAT also with a good percentile. So I shortlisted some colleges in Delhi-NCR. After comparing different colleges, I found JIMS Rohini to be the best option. I appeared for personal interview and group discussion to get admission in JIMS. The whole experience made me a very patient and positive person. As I said I wanted to get into FMS but I was not eligible because I did not take CAT, without which I was not eligible for admission.

My experience at JIMS is one of the best experience of my life. The best thing about JIMS is the faculty and the guest lecturers. Most of my time in college is spent attending classes. We have regular classes in the college from 9:30 am till 5:00 pm. My classroom is full of positive vibes and it’s the place where I spend most of my time on campus. We also have certain guest lectures and some club activities. I like to attend classes on marketing and excel the most. The institute offers a number of chances to participate in many extra-curricular activities by conducting various activity sessions on weekends.
The college has helped transform my personality up to some extent. I have become more systematic and have started valuing time more than before. I have become a more confident and learnings from my college are obviously benefitting me and will benefit throughout my life. Each and every class is thought provoking and PGDM is not just about academics, you get a taste of the business world with club activities, competitions and a lot of events. B-school experience is truly life changing. The best thing is that you can relate almost everything with what can happen with you outside. My college has given me a lot of new friends and experiences in the college as well as in the industry, some of which I will never forget. My college experience has helped me become a better person.
