The Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University is a government university. It was established in 1926 as a Government Intermediate College and  it was upgraded to a state university in 2017. It offers scholarships and financial aid to students from economically backward backgrounds.  It is one of the oldest government college in Ranchi with a very low fees.
