Biology is the part of science that focuses on the study of the evolution of human beings, the research of genetics, origin of life, chemical bonds, atomic structure, cell biology, the study of different species and their evolution, ecology, thermodynamics, reproduction of cells, the formation of life, etc. Biology itself is a vast branch that focuses on many minute details and their proper study is important to understand the evolution of life, find a cure for diseases and in understanding the life cycle of living beings.

A career in biology can be pursued by taking an undergraduate or postgraduate course in any branch of biology. Students who are more interested in research and development can pursue their Ph.D. and MPhil. The students with graduate and postgraduate degrees in the field of biology can find jobs in fields like medicine, animal husbandry, agriculture, wildlife, etc.

A biologist is a scientist who studies organisms and their relationship with the environment. They conduct research to improve the medical, industrial and agricultural processes.

MBBS in India

MBBS is the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. It is an undergraduate program which is of 5.5 years in which 4.5 years is academic education and 1 year is a mandatory internship. The aim of the course is to help a student to become a medical doctor. The course in itself is not easy and requires a lot of determination and zeal.

The eligibility for the course is 10+2 with Biology, Chemistry, and Physics as main subjects with 50% marks in HSC. With the demand for medical professionals increasing every day, the competition has become tough as well. It is important for the students preparing for NEET to study and prepare for the exam with a lot of dedication.

To get admission in any medical college, an all India level exam, NEET, is conducted. The selection process of college is done mainly on merit basis and candidate’s performance in the exam. The government has put a ban on state level and university level exams that were conducted previously and has emphasized having a single exam for the same.

The future of MBBS graduates is promising with 100% job placement. MBBS graduates are required in hospitals, research centers, medical units, pharmacy development centers, lecturer in universities or back office medical consultant.

However, some students prefer to get a specialization in the field of their choice by pursuing a two-year master’s degree with M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) or M.S. (Master of Surgery) or M.Sc. (Master of Science) post MBBS.

The salary of medical professionals at the beginning ranges from Rs 25,000 to Rs 35,000. After one has gained experience in the field the salary can increase to Rs 8 lacs to Rs 10 lacs. The medical professionals are also free to start their own medical consultancy or clinic after graduation, provided they get a license to practice from The Medical Council of India.

Preparation of NEET

NEET is one of the most difficult exams in the country and one requires a proper understanding of the subject and determination to clear the exam with good marks. There are many institutes in the country that help the students prepare for the exam while giving them a fair idea of the exam pattern, previous exam papers, and tips to attempt the paper within the given time frame. One can also look at the past question papers to get an idea of the difficulty level of the questions that are asked in the exam.

For the students who are preparing for NEET by themselves, we have a list of do’s that one can follow:

  1. Know the exam schedule: From the date of the form available for the exam to the tentative date for the exam to be held, the pursuer should be well aware of every detail. All the important dates can be found on the NEET website. The student can make a study plan keeping the schedule in mind.

  1. Know the syllabus: Biology is a vast subject and the topics that are covered in NEET are from various branches of the subject as well. Not just biology, one needs to be well versed in Chemistry and Physics as well while preparing for the exam. It becomes easy to prepare when one has a clear idea of the syllabus and know what they have to study.

  1. Know the exam pattern: NEET follows an established exam pattern and the question papers are designed keeping the pattern in mind. The exam is a multiple-choice question pattern which comprises of 180 questions equally distributed between physics, chemistry, botany, and zoology. The total marks awarded for the exam are 720 and the time limit is of three hours. For every right answer (+4) marks are awarded while for every wrong answer (-1) mark is allotted.

  1. Time table and study plan: When preparing for NEET it is important for the student to prepare their study time table and plan and follow it strictly. The course and the exam pattern are difficult and the student must be ready to learn and clear their doubts. Breaking chapters into subtopics can help the student attain a better grasp of the topic. One can find the best NEET preparation materials online and take the help of the same during their preparation.

  1. Practice hard: Knowing and learning topics will fetch you no good result unless you are regularly practicing what you have learned. The key to success is practice. Mock exam papers are available online and in bookstores. One can utilize their resources to get an idea of the exam pattern.

However, I would recommend that she follow a career in which she would never have to work under pressure. I am suggesting a few career options as per the information provided by you:
1. She may become a doctor as she excels in academics and enjoys biology. It is a reputed profession, and she can become a specialist like a surgeon. She may face challenges in the initial phase, such as clearing NEET UG to get into a good medical college and then NEET PG to get into a good hospital for MD. However, once she successfully becomes a doctor, she will be able to save lives and also have a respectable career.
2. If her interest is in teaching, she may pursue a post-graduate with a biology subject and go for a postdoctoral fellowship. She will have to clear the NET exam for that. This profession is equally respectful, and she can write a thesis after completing a research project. She can even become a top lecturer in government colleges.
3. She has the potential to become a professional pianist and perform in international concerts. With the advent of social media, musical talent is now getting recognition across the globe. She may become very famous if she follows this profession passionately.
4. Similarly, she can become a sketch artist. Today, a good sketch or painting can be worth thousands, or even crores. Therefore, she may explore this field and get her talent displayed in famous galleries. As I mentioned, she has plenty of options, but she must make a career in a field that does not become a burden on her. If she likes to study for hours, she must go into a related field. If she can play the piano for hours, she may go into that field.
