B.Tech. in Mining Engineering - Batch of 2028

Really good college, like if you make good friends who hustle and are fun at the same time.
Placements: Almost 90% of the students got placed in the department of mining engineering. The top recruiting company is Coal India. The highest package is given by Coal India of 40 LPA, and the lowest is 2 LPA. The roles offered are mining engineer, mine planning engineer, drill and blasting engineer, mine surveyor, etc. Almost 30% of the students got internship, in which some got individual internship.
Infrastructure: The hostels are pretty old and dirty, but are being maintained every year. All the hostels have Wi-Fi with a speed of up to 300 Mbps, and in the curfew hours, like around 10 pm, the speed goes to 30 to 40 Mbps. The campus is clean, but roads are very poorly maintained however, work is underway and will probably be finished in 5 to 6 months. The library is one of the best places with AC and sofas for reading journals and computer desks for studying, and a computer center which will open soon for all the students. Canteens are good.
Faculty: All teachers are very helpful and well qualified, which will help with their greater insight for a better future in the particular branch. The teaching quality is very good with smart boards and comfortable seats. The curriculum has recently been changed and has become more relevant for the upcoming students. Exams are very decent, not too hard, not too simple, but you can get help from the professor if you are active in class. The passing marks are 40% and above. All this pretty much makes us ready for the industries.
Other: This course is given by the Jossa counselling. I did not think it is that special, but after I joined the college, I realized that this is a pretty good course if you are interested in it. Almost the course is very good, but they should have kept the branch change option in the first and second year on the basis of marks. Events and fest are very healthy and very energetic, which do not interrupt the studies and help us to make very good memories. Campus crowd is very small, and scholarships are being given to many students.

The glory of IIEST Shibpur, Kolkata.
Placements: For the 2025 batch, the average package for IT was 14.12 LPA, with a median of 11.4 LPA. 80% of the total IT students are placed, with top recruiters like Google, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, and Wells Fargo. Some students got internships in their third year itself and cracked a PPO.
Infrastructure: Hostel facilities are good, with a new, state-of-the-art 1000-seater hostel. The departments, their labs, and other classrooms are well-maintained. The Central Library, along with the computer center, has a lot of books and resources and air-conditioned study places for students to use.
Faculty: Teachers are well-experienced, knowledgeable, and masters in their field. The curriculum is not that relevant compared to the current job market scenario, but this is also the case with other national institutes. Semester exams are not that difficult, a reasonable amount of study helps in cracking them easily.

Review on IIEST Shibpur in my view overall.
Placements: 60-70% were placed. The highest package in our college is 51 Lacs per annum. The lowest is 4 Lacs per annum. The median package offered in our college is 7 Lacs per annum. 60% of students got internships in my course at companies like Caterpillar, ISRO. Many students from this department move towards higher studies.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our campus is old. It is not better compared to other NITs. There are 3 hostels available for girls. A 1000-seater hostel is under construction for boys. Wi-Fi is available in the hostel. Among the 3 hostels, 1 is for freshers.
Faculty: Yes, teachers are helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. Their way of teaching is good. There are 2 exams in 1 semester. They are divided into mid-semester examination and end-semester examination. In the mid-term, half of the syllabus comes in the examination, but in the end-semester examination, the full syllabus will come.
Other: I chose this course because I want to be an aircraft engineer in the future. The best things in my course are that we can gain knowledge about space, aircraft, and many other things related to our daily life. At IIEST Shibpur, there are many events, fests, and programs organized by the whole IIEST Shibpur community.

College gives you all the things regarding academic as well as college life.
Placements: Approximately 70% of students of the department of civil engineering got placed in prestigious firms as PWC, some PSUs like BHEL, BPCL, and GAIL. The highest package is about 22 LPA, lowest is 6 LPA, and average is 9 LPA - 10 LPA. Top recruiters are PWC, JSW, BPCL, TCS, and many more. About 90% of students got internships, whether paid or non-paid.
Infrastructure: Facilities and infrastructure are good in the department. We have seminar hall, Wi-Fi, labs, and well-equipped classroom. There is also a library. Quality of food offered in hostel is much good. Canteen is available at affordable cost. Medical facilities are also provided by the institute. Sports club and gymnasium are also well-equipped.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful and highly qualified from top institutes in the country. Teaching style is flexible. Mode of teaching is English. Course material is relevant and makes the students industry-ready. Semester exams are there. Two exams are there per semester equipped with several class tests and assignments. Pass percentage is good.
Other: Civil engineering is one of the oldest courses offered by the institute with good placement records. Highly qualified teachers are there to guide. Several events and seminars are organised by the department. Department fest is also there. Scholarships are also provided for meritorious students.

My honest review about my college.
Placements: Campus placements are excellent 100% placements. Summer placements 2019-20 1.31 LPA (2 months) were offered. In final placements 2018-20 18.76 LPA were offered. Aspirants can go through the placement report of the college for further information. Every student has to go through a summer internship program for 2 months (April-May). The college offers on-campus internship opportunities and many renowned companies visit the campus.
Infrastructure: So far we have not come to the electives stage that will be given to me in the second year but in the first year, I have to study all three subjects that are physical, organic, and inorganic chemistry. I will opt for physical chemistry as my elective in 2nd year. I am staying in PG and I pay Rs. 6000 per month and the facilities are not very much good but they are just fine to stay. Food is not quality food but it does the job and is better than eating fast food.
Faculty: Faculty is just more than my expectation. I am being taught by scientists and researchers some of them have done their research and some have written books on NCERT and other boards. Most of the faculty here have either done their Ph.D. or postdocs from abroad. They have worked with many Nobel Prize winners in chemistry. We have only 12 classes and 3 labs per week and are awarded Saturday off along with Sunday. So we had enough time to have fun and spend time on other activities.

Dissatisfied because of poor facility for cricket.
Placements: The placements in AE & AM are too low, as many come here to do research. This year, 2 to 3 seniors got placed and their packages were about 30 to 40 LPA. So, for research in AE and AM, it is preferable; otherwise, not. Although, I don't have a proper idea as I am in my 1st year.
Infrastructure: Washrooms are not proper. The food was also too bad. As you find every day (every meal) potato, even at breakfast. For South Indians, they will suffer a lot, as there will be no spice in the food. It's not good for sports either, as there is one ground for cricket and football. However, since it is in Bengal, football dominates.
Faculty: Teaching is not bad. However, we don't have good experience as I am still in my 1st year. The 1st-year curriculum is the same for all branches as branch change is available. The course curriculum is not bad. Some of the faculty are not worthy as they don't teach, just read books like Moral.
Other: The faculty on this campus is better than those in IIT KGP, which has been said by our seniors.

Admission to IIEST Shibpur for B.Tech is through JEE Main followed by JoSAA counselling. For M.Tech, you need a valid GATE score. Keep an eye on the official JoSAA and CCMT counselling dates, and make sure you have all required documents like marksheets, category certificates, and ID proofs.

IIEST Shibpur is located near Howrah, West Bengal. The nearest railway station is Howrah Junction, from where you can take a taxi or local transport to Shibpur. The campus is close to the Botanical Garden area and is well-connected by buses and app-based cab services.

Yes, an EWS certificate can potentially help you get admission to B.Tech ECE at IIEST. With an EWS rank of 6918 and 96.7 percentile in JEE Mains, you have a good chance of getting into IIEST Shibpur, especially for ECE, though it may depend on the specific cutoffs for that year. Your 96.7 percentile
