The institute has not released the placement report incorporating the overall data for the 2024 drive. However, the media reports have disclosed the 2024 placement statistics till Phase I. As per the reports, the average package for the 2024 drive stood at INR 26.27 LPA. The number of international offers was 22 in 2024, which was comparatively lesser than the 2023 phase I placements. • After the application process is over; students have to go through various selection rounds for final admission. The institute considers the merit of the candidates for MBA and PhD admission. 
• For BTech, MDes, MSc, BSc and MTech courses, JEE Advanced, IIT JAM CEED and GATE scores are considered for the selection of candidates.
• Additionally, admission to PhD and MS by Research is based on UGC NET/ CSIR NET and other national-level exam scores.
• After the exams, JoSAA, COAP and CCMN Counselling are conducted for seat allotment to BTech, M.Tech and MSc courses. However, a merit list is released by the institute for announcing the names of the candidates shortlisted for certificate, PhD and MS by Research courses followed by a counselling round. Candidates need to pay the admission fee to confirm their admission.

IIT Kanpur offers a four-year BS degree (Bachelor of Science) which is also referred to as BSc by many. At the undergraduate level, IIT Kanpur offers this programme in full-time and it provides both theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of Science. Available across six specialisations, admission to this programme is entrance exam-based (JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced). 

In order to apply for BS at IIT Kanpur, candidates are required to go through the official application of JEE Main followed by applying for JEE Advanced. With respect to the past years' cutoff, Mathematics and Scientific Computing is considered to be the most competitive specialisation under this programme. Followed by this, Statistics & Data Science and Economics are the popular specialisations available at IIT Kanpur. However, a specialisation must be selected out of interest, past academic experience and qualification rather than on the basis of popularity and competitiveness. 

IIT Kanpur accepts JEE Advanced ranks for admission to the BTech and other courses. JEE Advanced cutoff 2025 has been released for admission to IIT Kanpur. The round 1 cutoff for the General AI category candidates is ranged between 270 and 9662. the lowest rank one can achieve is,  270 for B.Tech. in Computer Science Engineering for the General All India category candidates. In addition to that, CSE was the most competitive course among all the courses. Similarly, for the OBC AI category candidates, the CSE still having the lowest rank of 142.
