Candidates who wish to apply to the M.Tech programme must have a valid GATE score. Students are screened based on their CGPI in BE/BTech and GATE scores during COAP counselling. However, candidates who have completed their BTech from IITs with a CGPA of 8.0 and above can apply without GATE scores. These applications are reviewed by the respective department (s). IIT Patna M.Tech CSE is a two years postgraduate-level course lasting. The programme fee structure is cumulative of multiple components such as tuition fee, hostel fee, library deposit, training and placement fee, etc. The M.Tech fee range from INR 20,000 to INR 10 lakh.

After JEE session 2 is completed, only those candidates who are aiming for IITs need to start preparing for JEE Advanced after clearing JEE Main. Candidates aiming for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) need to meet these cutoff marks in JEE Mains to be eligible for JEE Advanced 2026.

Candidates must complete Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with a minimum of 75% aggregate to apply for BTech programme at IIT Patna. Aspirants also need to pass JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced to get a seat in the BTech course.

The duration of integrated MSc courses offered by IIT Patna is usually five years. The MSc integrated courses combine the curriculum of both MSc and PhD courses of the same specialisation at IIT Patna.
