Step 1: IIT Patna Application Process 2026

Students interested in getting into IIT Patna must submit the online application form for the course-specific entrance exam or college, depending on the course they wish to get into.

For BTech and BTech Dual degree: Candidates have to fill out the JEE Main application form via the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) (nta.ac.in). The application fee for boys is INR 1,000 and INR 800 for girls.

Q: Can I study BTech at IIT Patna for free?

No, there is no provision of a student studying free at IIT Patna as per the official website. However, IIT Patna provides a range of Merit-Cum-Means scholarships to meritorious and needy students. Any UG (BTech) student or MSc student can receive these scholarships. The criteria to receive is that the annual income of a student's parents/ guardian/ family from all sources in the preceding financial year must not be more than INR 4.50 lakh. Category-wise eligibility criteria and the way in which the scholarship is offered is as follows:

IIT Patna offers MTech for two-years at the PG level. This course is divided into four semesters. The institute offers MTech in. Artificial Intelligence, Power and Control, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, etc. Admission to MTech programme is based on GATE followed by COAP Counselling. A well-equipped campus and supports learning and skill development.

Placements: Since this batch started a few years ago only the current placement percentage is 60-80 percent. The average package lies between 5 LPA and 10 LPA. Companies like Oracle and Flipkart are included in the recruiters' list. This course is more skill-dependent. Average package are lower than B.Tech courses.

Infrastructure: The facilities are very good. We get all the necessary things. The campus infrastructure includes seminar halls, hostels, sports ground, both indoor and outdoor.

Faculty: The faculty is very helpful. We receive a great mentorship from them. The first semester was not hard but from the second semester, the quality of the examinations and courses increases. Group projects are also introduced from the second semester onwards. Every week, some webinars are held.

Other: Sometimes extracurricular activities are not available. Overall it's a great college. Placements are good and mentorship is also provided. Fests are held, and everyone participates actively with great enthusiasm. Big celebrities are invited to fests like Anvesha.

The reality of the hybrid course B.Sc in Computer Science and Data Analytics provided by IIT Patna.

Placements: The total percentage of getting placed and getting interned is very good. In the year 2025, more than 800 students from our course got their internship via on-campus and many students got placed before even completing the course. The packages were good, like an average package of 8 LPA were provided, where the highest ones were among 20 LPA or more. The top recruiters are HCL, Infosys, and Wipro. The top roles offered were SDE and BDE, some also got placed in HR.

Infrastructure: So basically this course is a hybrid course, so you do not have to go to any physical class, but during the campus immersion, they provide a hostel. The infrastructure of the hostel, exam halls and lecture hall is good and clean, and the food provided is also good. They also provide us with the opportunity to participate in various sports and activities during immersion.

Faculty: Most of the faculty for these courses are IIT professors, some are NIT or IIIT professors, too, so they obviously provide you with a great learning experience. Also, the course is designed to provide you with the modern-day skills required in the industry, like data analysis and machine learning. The examinations are moderate, depending on the student and on how well they studied overall in the semester.

Other: Well, to be honest, this course is value for money as it is not very expensive and provides better skills and gives you an IIT degree. You can also visit the campus in these courses. You can experience the campus life as well as the cultural fest of IIT Patna even in these courses. But there is still something they need to improve, like better food during immersion and improving the choices of companies that come as recruiters.

So well, good infrastructure, campus life, and facilities are provided to each student.

Placements: 90% of students are placed. The highest package is 1.17 crore, the lowest package is 8-10 LPA, and the average package is 23-26 LPA. Top companies are Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Accenture, Goldman Sachs, and Wipro. 90% of students got internships. Software engineer roles are offered.

Infrastructure: Though IIT is a central government institution, facilities ranging from studying to various types of amenities are provided to students. Free Wi-Fi is given to students during class hours, and hostel facilities are excellent. The mess and canteen are fabulous and well-equipped with every kind of food item a student can eat according to his/her choice. Every kind of sports facility is available.

Faculty: Professors are helpful, well-educated, and extremely knowledgeable. Teacher quality is at an advanced level. The course curriculum is flexible and relevant for students. It makes students purely industry-ready. The difficulties of semester exams vary subject by subject, providing a mix of easy and difficult assessments. Pass percentage 94%.

Other: As I am more interested in building my career in software engineering, I chose this course. The best aspects of our course are coding, new skills, and new problems. There is a little bit less focus on math skills for students, so that needs improvement. Events like Anwesha and the DJ night are very enjoyable. The campus surroundings are spacious, with ample facilities for students, starting from daily life activities like running, walking, playing, cycling, etc.

I am really satisfied with it. Placements are pretty good. Infrastructure is awesome.

Placements: The economics branch was started 2 years back in 2024, so there are no placement states for my branch. In other branches like CSE, ECE, etc., the placement percentage is 80 percent. The highest package offered is more than 1 crore per annum. The remaining 20 percent of students choose the civil services, startups, etc. Companies like Google, Microsoft, IBM, Nvidia, Accenture, Samsung, Sony, KPMG, etc., hire students from the college.

Infrastructure: The hostel is well-equipped with 7 Wi-Fi connections and a lift. Rooms are good. The library has all types of books, magazines, and journals. A digital library facility is also available. Right now, the mess food is pretty good. Medical facilities are good. We have a sports complex in which cricket, football, hockey, tennis, volleyball, and basketball are available. We also have a gymkhana where TT, badminton, chess, and a gym are available.

Faculty: Professors are awesome. Many of them study at foreign institutes. Nearly all professors have enough experience in their particular domain. Many professors also release their research papers from time to time. The 1st-year course curriculum is not fully relevant, but it's good for unskilled problem-solving. Exams are not difficult, as nearly 99 percent of students pass easily.

Other: I have to explore the path of economics, so I chose it. It organises 3 big fests, namely Celesta (tech fest) in December, Infinito (sports fest) in October, and Anwesha (the biggest cultural fest).

The infrastructure is decent and the teaching faculty is excellent.

Placements: This year's placements are going really well compared to last year. The seniors are very cooperative in helping us learn new things. Every branch is getting a decent placement average this year. Its average could be 25 to 30 LPA this year. The internships are really good.

Infrastructure: We have 2 computer labs and the hostel is good. The mess is decent. The campus is big, and there are bus facilities available to travel around the campus. There is a gymkhana and a sports complex. In the sports complex, we have a cricket ground, a football ground, etc.

Faculty: The teaching faculty in IIT Patna are from very prestigious universities, like our mechanical teacher, who is from MIT, USA. There are mid-sems and end-sems, along with quizzes going on throughout the semester. The curriculum is well planned and it is followed thoroughly.

IIT Patna - The good and bad.

Placements: Placements are good, and in my course, the placement percentage was 82%, and the overall placement percentage was 89%. The average package overall was near 20 LPA, and the average package for mechanical was about 13 LPA. The highest package in mechanical was approximately 50 LPA, and overall, the highest was 1.2 CRPA. All major software companies and PSUs visit IITP for the placement drive.

Infrastructure: The academic infrastructure is great, with high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the institute, high-tech labs, and modern classrooms with facilities such that all students can SEE the screens easily. The library in IITP is huge, with all modern amenities and all sorts of books. Hostel facilities are decent, but the cleanliness of washrooms should be improved. The mess is decent, and medical and sports facilities are amazing.

Faculty: The faculty are knowledgeable and highly qualified in their fields. Most of the faculty are helpful and try to teach well. The course curriculum is relevant and in accordance with NEP policy. The semester exams are challenging, but if prepared well, you can easily pass.

Other: Some shortcomings are that it's not very near the city, so city life or nightlife doesn't exist. There is a lack of food shops inside the campus, so you will feel that, but apart from that, it's fine.
