JGEC is good for campus life and to get a good placement in your hands.
Placements: Here, most placements are in non-core departments and placement is between 5 LPA and 9 LPA. The highest package is 18 LPA here. 95% of students got placed in any reputed company, and others chose a path for higher education like M.Tech, UPSC, and many others. There are many clubs for coding and studying other things.
Infrastructure: There are four hostels on our campus for each year, and one ladies' hostel. The hostel food is more delicious, and the hostel infrastructure is very beautiful. In our hostel, the roof of Kanchenjunga is clearly visible, and beside the hostel, a tea garden is present, so nature is beautiful.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful and well qualified, often with good experience, and many students find them helpful and approachable. Doubts cleared, and an idea was given for our students, such as placements and projects from our teachers. JGEC is an autonomous college so there is an opportunity to get a good CGPA.
Other: Mind it, JGEC is an autonomous college.

This is good college campus.
Placements: 95% of students were placed on campus. 54 LPA is the highest package, 4 LPA is the lowest package, and the average package is 10 LPA. Tata Motors is the top recruiting company for the course. 60% of students got internships from your course.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is good, and the facilities like Wi-Fi, and labs are good, classrooms are very good, and there is a library. Hostels are good, and the quality of food is also very good. Medical facilities and sports are very good in our college.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful, well-qualified, and very knowledgeable. The teaching quality is very good. This course curriculum is relevant,it makes the students industry-ready.

Although JGEC is a good college.
Placements: 86% placement in 2025. Here, all the core engineering departments are so good. But first time at JGEC, a student of the Information Technology department, 4th year named Suman Bera got approximately 1 crore package from LinkedIn, and before that, he was an intern at LinkedIn.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is old, as it is a government engineering college established in 1961. But there are a total of 5 hostels, of which 1 is a ladies' hostel and another 4 are boys hostel. Also, the quality of all rooms, including the bathroom and basin, is good.
Faculty: All faculty members are so good, also friendly, and very helpful. They are very knowledgeable and highly qualified. The B.Tech course is for 4 years, while the M.Tech course is for 2 years. All semester exams are easy and PYQ-based. Good questions we get in exams.

JOLU, the beloved name of Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College | Mechanical Engineering.
Placements: Approximately 86% of students are placed on campus. The highest package is 2 LPA by BHEL, a PSU company. The lowest is 5 LPA, and the average may be 6.7 LPA. Internships are coordinated with NIT Jamshedpur, which is provided by the college in terms of research internships, and there are many industrial internships done by students.
Infrastructure: There is better infrastructure available in our college. There are many types of machines in the workshop, including welding, carpentry, and computer laboratories. Classrooms are in good condition with CCTV. There are 4 boys' hostels for different years (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th), and the ladies' hostel is far from theirs. There is Wi-Fi available in each hostel room. However, hostel food is average. There are 4 large fields for sports and recreation.
Faculty: Professors are well-qualified, with many holding Ph.D. degrees from various IITs. They are very supportive. There are many clubs for cultural, sports, and technological activities. The college's workshop experiences make students industry-ready. There are 3 types of exams: internal and main semester exams. Exams are slightly tough. Despite that, approximately 80-90% of students pass.
Other: Currently, I'm pursuing this Mechanical Engineering course from JGEC. I chose this field because my core interests lie in innovation and creative things. I'm giving my best to achieve something big. I believe that if we bring the most advanced technology, it will reach its peak.

Great college with infrastructure.
Placements: Almost 80% of people got placed overall. The placement of the core department is amazing. Recently like this year a PSU recruited 12 students. Top recruiters like Tata Power, WTW, and L and T. The internship opportunities are great as the alumni network is very strong compared to other top colleges.
Infrastructure: The hostel infrastructure at Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College (JGEC) is quite standard for a government engineering college in West Bengal. There's an overview based on typical and available information as of recent years. Generally 2 to 3 students per room in the first year, single occupancy in senior years depending on availability.
Faculty: Every professor is highly qualified and experienced. Their quality of teaching is highly unmatchable. You need not watch lectures on YouTube if you attend your classes regularly. Yes, this is true that the curriculum is still old here which is the problem in every college. The pass percentage is great. See if you just study a little before seems you will easily pass.

This college is very beautiful.
Placements: College placements are moderate even a non-core student can get an average package of 10 LPA. Core branch students get a package of 5 to 10 LPA. There are many packages from different branches but there is not a high package for average students for a flip branch. The packages vary. Placements for a government job are unpredictable but in a government college, the placement is far better than the others. We get many chances from the reputable company.
Infrastructure: In my college Jalpaiguri government engineering college there is a huge campus and I am lucky to have such an adventurous campus life there is many playgrounds at the front side there is our college building administrative building and different side of our different brunches as there is a mechanical engineering department have there own sits and 4 boys hostel and 1 girls hostel.
Faculty: I have read 8 out of 10 the relevant and comprehensive, I chose engineering because from the beginning, I have been interested in the field and dreamed of it. I see major opportunities in the engineering course. I have dreamed of core branches. There are also many private colleges, but in my rank, I got this government college, so I chose it. Our faculty members are very helpful but also harmful to us.

Satisfied because of highly knowledgeable faculties and having decent placement record in 2023.
Placements: 80% students are placed in 2023 placement session. A maximum package of 8 LPA an average of 6 LPA and a median package of 4 LPA are offered. Top recruiting companies are WPIL, Larsen & Toubro, HPL, TATA Power, Adani, and Bengal Beverages. The top role offered in this course is graduate engineer trainee.
Infrastructure: Spacious classrooms, necessary labs and workshops (forging and foundry shops, welding shops, carpentry shops, machine shop fitting shops, etc.) are required for the course curriculum. A central library with more than 55,000 books is there.
The central computer lab has more than 90 computers. A hostel with 24*7 electricity, drinking water, and Wi-Fi connection through LAN with a minimum speed of 65 mbps download speed and 55 mbps upload speed are there. Four boys hostels and one ladies hostel are available.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful, cooperative and knowledgeable. They engage students in various research projects and create enormous value in their lives and careers. As the college is autonomous, they alter the syllabus as required. The syllabus is made following the GATE syllabus so that students can prepare for the GATE course simultaneously. The semester exam is moderately tough; the questions are conceptual.
Other: I chose this course because of vast aspects of this branch and its connection with many other field like mechatronics, aviation, naval, automobile, etc. Industry-related skills should be part of course curriculum. One technological festival called 'SRISHTI' and one cultural festival called 'JECLAT'.
Alumni scholarship are given here on the basis of economic status and merit of the student. The college is close to NH and has railway station within 2 kilometers. The college has several club for extra curricular activities apart from studies.

Placements: My college provides one of the best placements in core sector (Mechanical, Electrical, and civil) in West Bengal. When the word mechanical engineering comes to your mind, you probably think of 0 placements or, if lucky, getting placed in TCS, which is the case for most private colleges in India offering B.Tech mechanical engineering, but in our college, our top recruiters include WPIL, Haldia Petro Chemical Ltd, MGH, Bengal beverages Limited, Flakt group, Adani and many more. Most of the roles offered were GET (graduate engineer trainee), senior engineer, shift engineer and some internships. Some companies that also offer campus placement in mechanical engineering include Tata Power, Lenze Mechatronics, Byju's, L&T and Voltas. The highest package offered on campus in the core sector (non-technical roles) as GET is around 6.97–7 LPA.
Infrastructure: Some classrooms are quite old and dilapidated but in my department (Mechanical engineering), most of the classrooms are quite large and do offer good ventilation and lighting. We have a seminar hall for our department, a CAD/CAM lab and other necessary labs and workshops for practical demonstration of topics. We also have a gallery classroom (which you won't get in every department).
When it comes to hostels, you cannot compare it with private college ones but each rooms provides 3 LAN ports, which offers upto to 100 Mbps.
Toilets and washrooms in our hostels are reconstructed so one would probably get new sanitary fittings. When it comes to mess food, you might have to compromise with it sometimes, but each boy hostel is provided with separate canteens, as well as a common college canteen and also a night canteen, which may help you escape from stale dinner.
Most of the administrative building and hostels are currently being renovated and reconstructed so one might get better infrastructure than one shown in the YouTube videos.
You need not worry about medical facilities, as we have Jalpaiguri Super Specialty hospital in less than 600 m from administrative building. Our college is built on 118 acres of lush green land so if you are a nature lover, this can be a paradise for you.
Faculty: Now, coming to our faculty, in my department, most of the faculty members are highly experienced and most of them have previously served in this sector as engineers, so they have expertise in their field. Most of the professors are Ph.D. holders and M. Tech. They teach in their area of expertise and give excellent lectures. Most of their lectures cover vast parts of GATE syllabus and some professors also do give us GATE questions, If one has any doubt in any topic, one is free to ask to their respective subject professors, as they are highly co operative and student-friendly. The semester fee is quite low; a 4-year UG degree can cost you less than 40,000 in total (excluding the hostel fee).
Semester times can be quite stressful, as most engineering students study one night before exams. But there are some who are consistent in their effort through out the year; for them, good grades are easily achievable. Semester difficulty varies year-wise depending upon your batch, but if one gets a backlog in particular subjects, it becomes very difficult to clear; sometimes it may take even 3–4 years or even more than that to clear.
Other: Lastly, I would like to mention that if you are interested in studying the core department, especially mechanical engineering, then this college must be on your list, as one may get to enjoy the lush green campus, chilling winters of North Bengal, get involved in various club activities, host the largest cultural festival (JECLAT) in North Bengal, host the largest teach festival (Shristi) in North Bengal and lastly, have a good ROI ( return on investment). .
