It is the best college for students who can mould themselves into their best selves.
Placements: Placements in our college were quite good for the students of our batch. Companies like Tech Mahindra, Global Edge, HP, Alpha Marine, CMSIT, Suprabha, etc., have visited our campus for recruitment. Most of the students from CS, IS, and EC branches were selected with an average salary package of 3.25 LPA. Placements are good for EC, CS, and IS branches when compared to other branches like mechanical and civil. I am from the mechanical department, and I got selected in Alpha Marine, a merchant navy company, with a salary package of 4.50 LPA. For our senior batch, most of the students from CS, IS, and EC departments were placed in Tech Mahindra which is a leading IT sector company.
Infrastructure: Our college is located in the midst of nature, and the college building is beautiful. The college is well-known for it's systematic, well-organised, and the best infrastructure. There were separate floors for each department, but now there are separate blocks for each department. The college library is very big, and it contains a lot of books. Every classroom is well-equipped with projectors, fans, benches, and lights. Labs are also well-maintained. In our college, we have a nice canteen where we can get both south and north Indian foods. The college also has an Axis Bank ATM which is situated next to the canteen. The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled. Medical facilities are not provided in our college. However, SDM hospital is located next to our college. Our college provides separate hostel facilities for both boys and girls. Our college has the best hostel facilities when compared to other colleges in the entire district. It was really good, and the price was affordable. In the hostel, they provide different types of rooms like attached bathroom and non-attached bathroom. We can select which is suitable for us. For attached bathroom rooms, the cost is Rs. 17,000 per year, and for the non-attached bathroom ones, it is Rs. 14,000 per year. Each hostel has a separate mess facility. Also, the food served in the mess is very good and hygienic. We have to pay Rs. 2,500-2,700 per month for mess food. SDMIT is well-known for its hostel facility; it provides the best quality of facilities.
Faculty: Most of the faculty members of our college are PhD holders and have both industry experience and teaching experience. I was a student of mechanical engineering. There were 28 faculty members in our branch which was the highest number. Most of the teachers were well-educated, knowledgeable, and kind-hearted. Their way of teaching was very impressive and easy to understand. During the 3rd year of our engineering, we went to an industrial trip to BEML which is a reputed PSU unit under the ministry of defence, undertaken by the Government of India.
Other: It is common in every engineering college to have festivals organised every year. Our college festival was good with wonderful cultural activities. The college invites CEO and MDs from top MNCs as guests. They also conduct alumni meet during the college fest. Every student will enjoy their college life at SDMIT. Connectivity to our college is not an issue. There will be many buses plying the roads, and college buses are also available. Every student in our college is eligible for scholarships. If you are a merit student, then you can get Rs. 2,000 every month from SDM Trust. Many government scholarships are also available for students. All students are given an opportunity to show their talent. SDM is well known for sports. Many of our college students won prizes in national level competitions.
