Great academic environment and supportive faculty.

Placements: Out of the total passing batch of B.A. Journalism and Mass Communication (Hons.) for the year 2024, around 70-80% of the students have been given opportunities in Bajaj Life, HDB Financial Services, M Pockets, etc. The major positions that are offered are Customer Care Executive and Back Office.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure for the Journalism department at Vidyasagar College is quite specialized. Most of our classes were held at the New Building, which had been specially allocated for the Audio-Visual lab and the seminar hall. The library has quite a collection of books and journals for the media field, which helped us with our dissertation. The college has hostel facilities, but most of the students stay at PGs and messes around the place. The canteen has reasonably priced and healthy food, and the general ambience of the place, being close to College Street, is quite academic and vibrant.

Faculty: The faculty for the Journalism and Mass Communication course is highly qualified and very approachable. They teach us the theoretical aspects as well as the practical aspects of media ethics. The University of Calcutta curriculum that we have followed is relevant, but it requires individual initiative to keep abreast of the latest digital trends. Semester exams are conducted regularly, and they are moderately difficult. If you attend the classes and the internal assessment, the percentage is quite high, above 90% for our department.

Other: I have chosen the B.A. Journalism and Mass Communication course because of my fascination with the medium of communication. The best part of this course is the exposure to various subjects such as films, advertising, international relations, etc. I wish there was more exposure to digital journalism. College life is pretty cool, with various events and fests going on throughout the year. The college is very well connected by bus and rail routes and is located right in the heart of the city, near College Street.
