  • Candidates can pursue Car Designing courses after 12th examination or its equivalent from a recognised board with an aggregate of 50% or higher. The qualifying examination should be in the Science stream (PhysicsChemistry, and Mathematics) or any other relevant field.
  • Many colleges and institutes conduct entrance examinations as part of the admission process for Automotive Design courses. Some common entrance exams for design courses in India include the National Institute of Design Entrance Exam (NID DAT), Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED), and Design Aptitude Test (DAT).
Q:   When do I need to start my preparation for NIFT 2026 exam?
A: 

The NIFT exam is among the competitive and is also considered among the toughest. So, it is recommended that the candidate starts their exam preparation early. NIFT exam has various components like written exam and Situation Test /Personal Interview. Candidates seeking admission to the B. Des and M.Des courses need to prepare for both the CAT and GAT. The CAT is a drawing-based exam. Now unless the candidate is already well-versed, the exam will be very difficult. So, start early. The same goes for the GAT.

NID evaluates aspirants based on their knowledge, creativity and aptitude for design. Experts share that NID is one of the most challenging design entrance exams conducted in the country. However, if prepared well, the difficulty level of NID Entrance Exam is medium. On of the main reasons why NID is such a competitive exam is there are very limited number of seats. For instance, there are only 425 seats available for the BDes programme through NID. In contrast, the NIFTs offer 2748 seats.
