My college helped me change for the better: Kinshuk Bagla

From the beginning, I was a studious child. I developed a keen interest in science and computers when I was in 8th grade and hence, it was then that I decided to become a computer science engineer. I was good at science and I chose non-medical in my 11th standard.

As every engineer dreams of getting into an IIT, I also dreamt the same but the mistake I did was that I took coaching classes of JEE from a local coaching center in my town. At that time, there was no one to guide me about the coaching classes of JEE as people in my family have either done B.Com or BBA. I ended up with poor marks in JEE exam and my dream of getting into IIT was shattered. My parents didn’t want me to live far from them so after searching for about 1 month about the best colleges near and around Chandigarh, I came to know about Chitkara University and luckily, I found that one of my school seniors was studying in that college. He told me that it is one of the best private colleges in north India. I did a lot of research about this college and I came across the MHRD Ranking List in which Chitkara University was among the top 150-200 colleges of India. So, I decided to take admission in Chitkara University and I am very proud of my decision.

Admission at Chitkara University is done based on counseling. The minimum eligibility for getting admitted in Chitkara University is that you need at least 60% in class 12th and should have given any state/national level entrance exam. Without giving any entrance exam, you cannot take admission in Chitkara University. As I ended up with a very bad result in JEE Mains, I chose Chitkara University. I researched a lot about this college for about 1 month and then I decided to take admission here. Apart from JEE MAINS, I appeared for Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Exam (UPSEE-AKTU), VIT exam, SRM exam and I cleared all of these. But due to a family situation, I couldn’t go far away from home and hence I took admission at Chitkara University. I took coaching classes of JEE from a local coaching center in my town and this was one of the biggest mistakes I ever did in my life. I think if I had taken coaching classes from any good and famous coaching institute then I would have definitely cracked my JEE Mains, but life sometimes doesn’t go as we want it to. However, I am happy now.

I am a hosteller. I wake up at 7 am, go for a jog and then get ready for the college. The college hours are 9 am-4 pm. The faculty here is very good. They help students with their weak areas and they are supportive. I like to study C language and Maths at the college. Besides the regular subjects, the college also teaches foreign languages which is the need of the hour. There are several workshops and guest lectures by renowned teachers held in the college from time to time. There are various clubs in the college for photography, dance, music, sports, etc. I have a keen interest in photography and public speaking, so I am a part of these two clubs. Apart from that, there is a badminton court in the college. The college also has a gym, badminton court, indoor games facilities, tennis court, volleyball courts, etc. If you love to play sports then this college is definitely for you. There are students from almost every part of India and some international students too. You get to interact with these and know them. If you are a hosteller, you have to take care of your own because when you become a hosteller there are no restrictions and it is totally up to you how you deal with it.

My college has changed me a lot. I have become self-dependent now and I can decide what is right or wrong for me. I think this is one of the best things I have experienced while leaving away from my parents. College time is the best time a person spends in his life and if you are a hosteller then you definitely make many memories which you can’t forget all your life!
