In terms of B.Tech placements, both KIIT University and Lovely Professional University are good options. KIIT is known for steady placement percentages and decent average packages, while LPU often highlights higher top packages and a larger number of recruiters visiting campus. Overall, placements i
Students’ Speak: Find out the eligibility criteria for placements in various engineering branches
By: Sachin Kumar Singh
The eligibility criteria for placements across various branches of engineering remain similar for B.Tech graduates. Sachin Kumar Singh delves into both common and specific eligibility criteria prevalent in engineering placements.
Most of the companies that come for the on-campus placements tend to have the same eligibility criteria but few of them still have very specific requirements.
There are still a few others who do not have any kind of eligibility criteria apart from just registered students. Therefore, I will first state the basic eligibility for placements:
- No backlogs
- 6/6.5 above CGPA or equivalent percentage
- 70 percent in class 12th
- 60 percent in class 10th
- One-year gap is allowed during the entire academic education phase
If there are any concerns about the overall attendance, the placement cell will not allow you to participate in that particular drive. But it will be good if you try to maintain a minimum of 65 percent attendance overall. There are few companies that specifically recruit for a particular region, they will ask you to have adequate knowledge of the regional language. For example, if they are setting up a new centre in Orissa, you must attain a certain level of fluency in speaking Oriya.
There are companies that will ask you to fill a particular type of form which contains different sets of questions and based on that they will be selecting the students as per their requirement. Sometimes the companies that come for IT branches may also allow core branches like Mechanical and Civil for the drive if they are recruiting in mass numbers and in that case, the eligibility will be the same for all.
The software companies that recruit in mass numbers allow all the registered students and the elimination is done after the written tests only.
Very few companies have the eligibility criteria as indicated below:
- 85 percent in class 10th
- 75 percent in class 12th
- 8.5 or above CGPA
- No year gap is allowed
- No backlog during the engineering degree
For branch-specific companies, sometimes they want to recruit very few students for a particular role and they will set a standard for minimum grade obtained in that particular subject. For instance, one of the companies which came only for recruiting Civil students on our campus, also required that a student must have a minimum of ‘A’ grade in Geotechnical Engineering and Structural Engineering subjects.
Same for the software companies, you must have sound knowledge at least in any of the languages, be it C, C++, JAVA and some explicit state that if you know JAVA then you are eligible. If you are from IT branch, you also have to create and run a complete code in a specific language within the stipulated duration of time.
I think the above-mentioned points are enough and I have covered every possible eligibility that is frequently asked in my college.
I would also suggest that do not take too much stress and keep the focus on your preparations. In my opinion, if you are a good student, you will be able to participate in every drive, as the eligibility required is not that different.
