Only MPhil Hindi to be offered at Lucknow University this year

Unlike other years, this year Lucknow University will be offering only one MPhil course, in Hindi due to lack of adequate number of candidates. The MPhil courses in anthropology, Sanskrit, ancient Indian history, physical education, social work, archaeology and sociology have been cancelled by Lucknow University.

This year, the number of applications received for admission to the above mentioned courses was much less than the number of seats available in these courses. Taking this into account, the University cancelled all the MPhil courses except Hindi.

Going by the norms, the University can offer a specific course only if 40% of the total seats are filled by the candidates. Once the applications were received, it was known that the above mentioned criteria could only be fulfilled in MPhil Hindi (regular/self-finance) and English. Furthermore, once the PhD entrance examinations results were declared, four qualifying who had applied for MPhil in English got enrolled in post-doctoral course. Due to this, MPhil in Hindi was the only course left that could comply by the norms.

In the year 2015-16, the admission process of 10 MPhil courses was announced by Lucknow University. The University did not receive any applications for Anthropology and public administration, as a result of which these two courses were cancelled and entrance exam was conducted for only the remaining eight courses.

Around 250 candidates appeared for the entrance test, but only 80 of them could qualify in the entrance test.

The University of Lucknow offers 450 seats for the BTech course. These numbers of seats are distributed across several specialisations. Moreover, the LU is a state university, and it follows seat reservation according to the authorised government. The seats are reserved for the reserved categories.
