The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) Entrance Exam 2018 for admission in all the Post Graduate Diploma programs (except for regional language courses) offered at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication was conducted today, May 27. The entrance exam for each course (English/Hindi Journalism, Radio & TV Journalism, Advertising & Public Relations) was conducted on the same day within a gap of one hour.

However, the IIMC Entrance Exam for admission in regional journalism courses (Odia, Urdu, Marathi, and Malayalam) was conducted a day earlier, that is May 26, 2018. The complete schedule for the IIMC Entrance Exam 2018 is as mentioned below:

Shiksha reported live from an IIMC Entrance Exam center in RK Puram where a total of 727 students appeared for English/Hindi Journalism papers and 600 students each appeared for Radio & TV Journalism as well as Advertising & Public Relations papers.

IIMC Entrance Exam Student Reaction to Journalism Course

A majority of students that Shiksha spoke to shared that the paper was easy but there were a lot of changes in the IIMC exam pattern.

Himanshi, a graduate in BA (Hons) English from Hindu College, Delhi University, said, “My paper went well. Questions were easy and mainly based on national as well as international current affairs, politics, and social issues. Since I have always been in a habit of reading newspapers I did pretty well in the exam.” Regarding the IIMC exam pattern, Himanshi continued further and shared, “The exam pattern was not the same as the previous year. Last year, the paper was entirely subjective, but this year there were objective questions as well such as MCQs (multiple-choice questions) and fill-in-the-blanks. The changed exam pattern was a surprise for students but not a major one. These were minor objective questions that anybody could answer. Overall, the 2018 paper was pretty easier than that of last year’s.”

Riddhi, a BCA final-year student who wants to build her career in the field of Journalism, said, “My exam went well. However, the difficulty level of the paper was medium as there was a change in the exam pattern which was not informed by IIMC before.” Saumya, a student of PGDAV College also shared, “I found the paper tough. Questions were mainly related to current affairs and since I was not completely updated on the latest happenings in India and abroad, my paper did not go well. However, I was able to complete my paper in time.”

Deeksha who is a working professional, revealed, “My exam went well. Although there were a lot of changes in the exam pattern this year, the questions were really easy. I was able to complete my paper much before time.”

IIMC Entrance Exam Student Reaction for Radio & TV Journalism Course

Most of the students who took the IIMC Entrance Exam for admission in Radio & TV Journalism course shared that the paper was easy but there was a slight shift in the pattern. As per Hansa, a working professional, her paper went okay. She said, “Since it is a subjective paper, I cannot say much about its difficulty level. But most of the questions in the exam were news-oriented.”

Vaibhavi, a BA (Hons) English student of Daulat Ram College, Delhi University, shared, “My paper went well. However, this year, there was a change in exam pattern both in terms of word limit as well as the type of questions asked. As opposed to previous year's papers, this year there were more short answer type questions. We did not have to write much. Also, this year, a lot of questions on personalities were asked. But in previous year's papers, there were more questions on the latest happenings in the world and India. Overall, it was a moderate paper. If a student reads newspapers daily and is updated, it is not that difficult to attempt the paper.”

Malka who is pursuing a Bachelor's in Mass Media from Sofia College for Women, Mumbai, said, “It was not a bad paper so my exam went well. If a student is aware of all the latest happenings around news then it is not difficult to do the paper.” Regarding the IIMC Entrance Exam pattern, Malka shared, “There was not a major shift in the paper pattern but this year we had to attempt any four questions out of five.”

Rishabh Jain, a BA (Hons) English graduate from Ram Lal Anand College, Delhi University, revealed, “It was an amazing paper. My exam went very well. The paper focused on very current issues. If a student had gone through newspapers even for the past six months, he/she could have attempted the paper easily.” Regarding the IIMC exam pattern, Rishabh felt, “Previously, the paper contained more number of questions and choices were given only within the questions. But in the 2018 paper, there were five questions out of which we were asked to do only four. So there was a slight change in the pattern of the exam. But the type of questions asked was similar to previous year papers.”

IIMC Entrance Exam Student Reaction for Advertising & PR Course

A majority of students who had appeared for the Advertising & PR course shared that the paper was fairly easy and there was no change in the exam pattern. According to a student from Amity University, Srishti who is pursuing a Bachelor's in Mass Media, her paper went well. She said, “The paper was not that difficult. However, I faced some difficulty in attempting the first and second questions of the exam.”

Another student, Nazuk, a graduate in Bachelor of Mass Communication from IP College for Women, Delhi University, said “My exam went well. The paper was fairly easy and tested the creativity of candidates.” Talking about the IIMC exam pattern for the Advertising & PR course, Nazuk revealed, “IIMC Entrance Exam 2018 pattern was the same as previous year papers. The paper had a repetitive question on a student’s favorite radio/TV program, which was good.” Ananya, a BSc Life Sciences student in Miranda House, Delhi University, shared, “IIMC paper was really easy. The questions asked in the exam were related to our regular life like what we see every day.”

Desna who is pursuing a Bachelor's in Advertising & PR course, shared, “The difficulty level of the exam was moderate. However, since I am already pursuing a course in Advertising & PR, I did not find the paper very difficult. It was a very practical paper in which we had to write example-based answers. I, especially, liked attempting the first question in which we had to write a movie review.” Another student, Shubham Arora also said, “The paper was not difficult. However, as compared to past years’ paper, this year’s paper was not lengthy at all.”
